What a great band, they wipe the floor with all this faux rock nonsense. you can trust ole johnny Marr, i mean the man made the smiths for christ sake. I hope they don't make it big like kings of leon, but'll be happy if they do. This song is very important to this album. Though I think Its a strange place for the album. Its a bit stadium rock reverby for my taste. Though the lyrics are smashing, something you come to expect from the sainted Jarmans'. Does anyone know how to get hold of a roses edition without traveling to yorkshire or portland? |

| Serge Gainsbourg – Cargo Culte Lyrics | 16 years ago |
know of the the magicians who call to jets In the jungle of New Guinea They scrutinize the zenith coveting the guineas That the pillage of freight would bring them On the sea of coral in the wake of this Machine those creatures not deprived Of reason those Papuans wait for vapour The wreck of the Vice-count and that of the Comet And as their totem hasn't ever been able to bring down To their feet neither a Boeing nor even a D.C. four They dream of hijacks and of bird accidents Those naive shipwreckers armed with blowguns Who sacrifice to the cargo cult By blowing toward the azur and the airplanes. Where are you Melody and your wrecked body Is it haunting the archipeligo where the sirens live Or well attatched to the cargo plane whose siren Of alarm has become silent, did you stay Adrift on the currents have you already touched Those bright corals of the Guinean costs Where those indiginous magicians act in vain Who still hope for smashed planes Having nothing more to lose nor a God in whom to believe, So that they give me meaningless loves I, like them, I prayed to the night cargo planes And I hold onto that hope of an air Disaster that would bring Melody back to me A minor turned away from the gravity of the stars. | Serge Gainsbourg – L'hôtel Particulier Lyrics | 16 years ago |
At fifty six, seven, eight, it doesn't matter, X street, if you knock on the door, First one knock, then three others, they let you in Alone and sometimes even accompanied. A servant, without speaking to you, leads you, Stairs, hallways with no end follow each other Decorated with baroque bronzes and gilded angels With Aphrodites and Salomés. If it's free, say you want forty four, It's the room they call here `The Cleopatra' Whose bed's rococo columns, Are negros, carrying torches. Among these naked slaves carved from ebony, Who will be the silent witnesses to this scene, While above the mirror reflects us, Slowly I embrace Melody English Translation acknowledgment to A. The Rolls' wings brushed against poles When despite myself off my path We arrived my Rolls and I in a dangerous Zone, an isolated place Down there, on the hood of this Silver Ghost From Nineteen hundred and ten moves forward like a scout The silver Venus on the radiator Whose light wings fly in advance. High, disdainful, while the screaming Radio covers the silence of the motor She stares at the horizon and her mind elsewhere Seems to ignore the sidewalks that I run over Allies, dead ends and places Where parking is illegal, an indifferent heart She holds the reins of my twenty-six horse power Princess of shadows, cursed arc angel Amazone in modern style that the sculpter In English, named Spirit of Ecstasy And so I was messing around before losing Control of the Rolls. I moved forward slowly My car swerved and a violent thud Tore me suddenly from my daydreams. Shit! I saw a bicycle tire up ahead, That continued to roll freely, And like a doll that looses its balance Her skirt pulled up on her white pants "What's your name?" "Melody" "Melody what?" "Melody Nelson" Melody Nelson has red hair And it's her natural color. English Translation Thanks to A. Chabot |
