| This is one of the few songs of Hurt's that's fairly easy to know the meaning to. Also one of the few songs that J has talked about. His parent's forbade him to listen to rock and roll, and forced him into listening to classical music. They also forced him to play an instrument, and hence how and why he plays the violin/cello so much in his songs. He said the first rock song he had ever heard in his entire life was "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam at his friends house. | |

To me, this seems like J writing about cheating on his the one woman he truly ever loved. "Now I was able to tell it was stupid as hell And the guilt was overwhelming Oh how could I do something to you Like that which had been done to me" This verse explains why he was suicidal. I think this happened in the stages of the band getting a record deal. Even after he wasn't there for her, she comes and takes care of him while he was sick. Now all he can think about is the one solid relationship he had, and how empty the groupies, fakes, and "friends" are making him feel. |
