Say Anything – Retarded in Love (feat. Casey Prestwood, Chris Carrabba & Michael Auerbach) Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it's about two people who have hit rock bottom. They had nothing. Now, they have nothing, except each other. They had become so jaded over time and now that they're actually falling in love with someone, they have no control, no other option except to just close their eyes and jump in. They don't know what to expect; it's just happening.

Sun Kil Moon – Neverending Math Equation Lyrics 15 years ago
When we grow up, we realize that the universe doesn't revolve around us.

My simplified explanation for this song is that it's about relearning that lesson in a more literal sense.

Haha I know this point has been made before, but I love how the music sounds innocent and gentle, when in reality it's about a creeper. I guess the song is that way because it's being told from the creeper's point of view, so it probably reflects his tender emotions.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Behold! The Night Mare Lyrics 16 years ago
I LOVE the guitar solo in this.

The song reminds me of a Frankenstein-esque love story. Yeah? An innocent, infatuated dreamer who pines for one he can't have. Then, the "...knives...never take me alive" part makes it seem like it's about Frankenstein and an angry mob.

The interpretation is pretty loose but I like it.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Blue Skies Bring Tears Lyrics 16 years ago
I think there's a bit of social commentary in this song. The first stanza seems to hint at war and maybe religious intolerance.

In the second stanza, "descend the darkened stairway...make hate...remaining traces" remind me of paramilitary operations, which hint at an oppressive, totalitarian government.

The "I am a stranger..." line brings out the impersonal nature of a society controlled by martial law, as if the happiness were sucked out of everyone.

Finally, the phrase, "You are the sweetest flower...devoured" just really gets me. It's really the finishing touch on this whole depressing, yet beautiful song. I interpret this last line to be the death of innocence, as it cannot survive in a society stifled with fear.
