This song is absolutely beautiful, but also sad. It describes the singer's own personal depression. "I spent the winter on the verge of a total breakdown While living in Norway I felt the darkness of the black metal bands But being such fawn of a man I didn't burn down any old churches Just slept way too much, just slept" This is perhaps the most important passage - it describes how he has spent the winter, or a period in his life, somewhere cold, dark, and alone. This is a direct metaphor for his feelings of depression and his sense of hopelessness. He is unable to even stand up for his feelings and act upon them, and consequently he does nothing but sleep through his depression. |
