FlipperJ wrote "The 80's references some people are finding are not all intentional - don't go nuts with that theme: "one of my kind" is not an INXS reference unless Train is really being corny. " From and interview with Monahan: "I said, 'I want to write an INXS-y song," Monahan recalled. "So, they started playing kind of an INXS-y song, and I wrote the song 'Hey, Soul Sister' to it and the melodies and started to sing it..." So, I don't think the INXS reference is incidental, or any of the 80s references. Monahan is my age. He was a teenager in the 80s and that's the music we came up with, so he's definitely making deliberate references, I think. |

| Pat Monahan is exactly my age, and all the 80s pop references are songs from when we were kids. It's very reminiscent of that sweet, intense, fun time in life...first love and all that. So, I don't know. I think it's just a happy, sweet, vaguely sexy (but innocently sexy song). | |
