| Black Mountain – Stay Free Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Stay Free is about a struggle. Notice that there are times when "stay free" is said, and times when "don't you leave" is said. The song is about wanting to hold on to a person who is destined to be free no matter how you feel or what you say, that person will always be free. You just have to let them be free - after all, that's where their beauty really lies. |

| One of my favorites from Black Mountain. I think he's trying to get a girl in bed....am I alone in that thought? | |

| Modest Mouse – The World at Large Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this whole album tells the dialogue of a break-up from 2 different points of view - the break-er and break-ee. World At Large, Float On, and Ocean Breathes Salty are the break-er's dialogue. This is a person who is reborn and revitalized, and seeing life in a totally different way. Dig Your Grave, Bury Me With It, Bukowski, and The Devil's Workday are the break-ee's dialogue. This person is angry, sarcastic, and trying to make sense of it all. A turning point is seen in The View. Here, the break-ee is starting to see things differently. The break-ee is able to find an understanding. Although this was unwanted, change is taking place here. Satin in a Coffin is the break-er's dialogue. Angry at the break-ee for being a freakin turd. The break-er has complete had it by this point. More of the break-er is seen in Blame it on the Tetons, which signals the utmost end of it all. It signals the mourning and humility when you realize there isn't any turning back as a result of the fighting. "Blame it on the Tetons...I need a scapegoat" Black Cadillacs is more angry. You can hear it in Isaac's voice. This is the break-ee. Obviously. Finally, One More Chance and The Good Times are Killing Me are told from the break-ee's POV again. Aside from the FACT that it's an amazing song, One More Chance is pretty self-explanatory. "seen so many ships sail in...go off sinking..." - great lyric. The Good Times Are Killing Me is the sad ending that feeds cravings for those of us who love to hear bad news. It's a sarcastic happy ending. A break-ee that used all types of substitutes for the old love. They allow you short term happiness, but in the long term, you're slowly killing yourself. THE END |
