I think isn't so much a break up song. To me it sounds like the guy is in love with the girl and would give her everything she wanted: ''you could have it all'' and ''you can have love and lots of other things''. However she doesn't see him in that way and he just has to stand back and watch her make bad choices for herself because she doesn't value her life very much: "so come on up, wasn't it you who said life was like a plastic cup; to be used and then disposed of" He disagrees: "but that's no way to treat a life like yours" But she doesn't listen to him or his advice, and the second verse (or first depending how you look at it) suggests that maybe they've had an argument over how she should treat love, and that he regrets saying these things to make her angry: "Oh no! I didn't mean to say what I did say/All about lovers and how they should lay/That was never for me to say and say" The sun rising and falling suggests that he's an optimist and sees the good things in life and is full of hope, whereas all she can see are the negative things and maybe that's why she doesn't value life as much as he does. And the last bit suggests that even though he's always there for her whenever she needs him, she still doesn't think of him in the way that he would like, and keeps going out with other guys: "for all the times I never never turned her away, and now she's here on someone else's arm" |

I dunno if somebody's already said but I can't be bothered to read all 158 comments! I think this song is about someone who was successful and possibly famous at a young age so lived the sex drugs rock and roll lifestyle, thinking they were having a much better time than average people. Then by the 3rd verse it sounds like they've grown up a bit more and missing the important things in life like family, and just the everyday things people tend to take for granted. But they've lived this lifestyle for so long that it's too late to go back ('but there is really nothing, nothing we can do') so they'll just have to carry on with this lifestyle. Then at the end 'We were fated to pretend' to me sounds like, their decision to take up this lifestyle meant they consigned themselves to living a false life to some extent, pretending to love the glamour etc but really just wanting to be normal in the end. |

| I think its about a guy who has a fling with a girl that's already taken...by someone much bigger than he is apparently! He's saying he doesn't want any trouble, and 'too much sugar for my sweet tooth' maybe means even though she's hard to resist she's more trouble than its worth? Not sure about the last bit fits in with my intepretation though :S Anyway love the song! | |
