To me, this is a song that is both angry and threatening, yet vulnerable, at the same time. A clue comes in the beginning: "Playin' with fire gonna get you wet How that feel down there on your knees, huh" is a reference to sex, violence, and perhaps, being humiliated. Towards the end is another interest reference to feeling vulnerable: Can't hurt us again when you come around here" is an acknowledgment she has been hurt before and is now with her friends for protection. Rhianna said it best herself in an interview: “I can tell you that making this album was my recovery. It’s the way I vented and expressed myself” |

I'm don't think this song was meant by Justin to be interpreted literally as a recounting of Rihanna's abusive relationship with Chris Brown. However, listening to it it is hard not to visualize her bruised and bloody face as captured in the LAPD's evidence photo that was leaked shortly after she was assaulted. And yeah, it is a hauntingly beautiful song. |

Sometimes songs about love are sweet and sentimental. This 'aint one of those songs. This is a song about a woman who challenges her lover to take her hard, to take her roughly, almost as much out of anger as passion. It is a song about a woman's sexual freedom. The listener has to wonder if this song is less meant for the guy she is with now, but perhaps to make a past controlling or domineering lover jealous. |

| To me, this song is about regret anhd how life can seem to lose its meaning in the wake of a hard breakup. | |
