well the idiom 'devil in the detail' mean that a small things that are ignored can cause serious problems later on.... so keeping that in mind, i think it's about him accepting his errors and dealing with the consequences as he deserved it but also, to 'dance with him tonight' can suggest he's going to be positive and not feel sorry for himself, and instead say 'bring it on!' |

i agree with PLAS that he could be talking to himself when he says "It's in your reach, concentrate" it makes me think of when someone tries to motivate themselves "that god's in crisis, he's over" god being his loved ones who want him to get past passive aggressive behaviour, he being brain, doesn't want to - being stubborn is part of passive aggressive - though there's a part of him that does, or it could be him turning it to God and saying God is over is a trait of passive aggressive (Victimization response - instead of recognizing one's own weaknesses, tendency to blame others for own failures) but he "falls apart" anyway cause the charateristics are who he is and can't be anything else - "can you find me space inside your bleeding heart", denying himself of help "bleeding heart" as passive aggressive stops him getting intimate, fear of dependency, not wanting to be helped and have to be support, sulking, etc, it gets in the way of things for him, so part of him wants him to stop behaving like he does and change, but he can't, that's who he is "everytime i rise i see you falling" if he did change, he might be happier but someone else won't cos it won't be the man they new (a lover possibly) that's how I interpretate it anyway. Brilliant song |

well when i saw them in shepherds bush just under two weeks ago, after brian was announcing all the band members, then went on to say "this is a song about nobody in particular", it's pretty obvious who he was talking about. Brian writes some pretty sarcastic lyrics, so i don't think you can take it so literal all the time |

after reading what AFIinside said, it may seem like he's just opening up to his mother - feels closer to her I assume as he says Scotland is his real home, where his mother is from - about his father and his disgust of that heritage and the shame he has, "i don't care for myself", but never mentions his dad though he's the American as he doesn't want to hurt him directly, and "Uncle Tom" is used as he doesn't want to lose his dad, just that culture I agree with reanimation also, I don't think Brian is trying to hide behind his words or make it so complicated; he's straight to the point with sarcasm. |

"filled a cavity your god shaped hole tonight" maybe meaning that creating happiness "god", and taking someone's pain "cavity" meant he'd sacrificed and grew unhappy, empty "hole" and gained pain. but tht's him trying to find a positive i guess, "for what it's worth" and then repeating it along with "got no lover", he sees that as a positive too but yeah, great songs really excited for the new album |

the beginning screams determination, as well as desperation and disappointment. great intro i think i've also noticed how the repeated "weight" some how, to me, comes off as 'wait', directed towards steve perhaps, emphasizing desperation. but then it's back to control and selfishness but the repeated "pate" from participate, a contrast from working with others to becoming the leader/staying strong to his own ideas and dreams (pate - poetic word for the top of the head) |

anddddddd "dream brother, my killer, my lover" could have a relationship like a brother, they knew each other so ell, close bond but because it is conditional love and not really brothers (dream, not real) he could either be his killer or lover, can let him down or support him or it could be even though he's angry and bitter, he'll still care for him and carry to push forwards also, even though it's a different drummer, the songs i've heard from the new album i love, it's still placebo for me |
