Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 16 years ago
'Pillars of salt' probably refers to the story of Sodom and Gomorah. God wanted to save Lot (Abram's nephew) and his family, so he told him to take his two daughters and his wife to flee from the city before it burned. God told them not to look back even once. Lot's wife, however, didn't listen to God and, as they fled, she turned to look back at the burning city. For breaking God's command she was instantly turned into a pillar of salt.

Love this song! I've been working on writing a dark fantasy novel series, and no other song could more perfectly capture the atmosphere and spirit of the second book than this one.

I think In_The_Mist is right- at least on the surface this song appears to be about a warrior. The battle is tough, and she's stronger than she originally believed. Still, the enemy is closing in on her. Unfortunately someone near to her (possibly the person she loves?) is wounded and is dying. She doesn't want him to, but he does die- and his death gives her the strength (i.e. she's PISSED) to defeat the people who stand against her.

At least that's my interpretation. :) I could very easily be wrong, though- and that's fine. I haven't known this song long enough to try to uncover any deeper metaphorical meaning (if there is any), but even if there isn't, this is a GREAT song.

And I also love Nightwish- actually, if it weren't for Within Temptation, I never would have come across them. Their song "Amaranth" is my absolute favorite! (yes, I know it's popish, but I still like it and am not ashamed. :) )
