Anberlin – The Art of War Lyrics 15 years ago
I love how pretty much all of their songs have a lot of meaning and I can relate, but this has by far topped them all. This song describes the ugly truth to so many relationships in life, and facing that reality.
It's like she told him she would help him and be there for him when he's broken and vulnerable, then as soon as she got him wrapped around her finger, did the very opposite. If you've ever been in that situation, you know if you're the broken one how devastating that can be...

Anberlin – Paperthin Hymn Lyrics 16 years ago
The song isn't about just one person in the band, it has a lot of meanings. It originally was about the guitarist's sister dying. Found that out first thing when it first came out. So four years later you can stop wondering. But all of Anberlin's songs are ambiguous so it doesn't have to be just one thing. That way it can either be their perspective of their faith or a relationship between people.
So really, they may be Christian, but it totally depends on how you look at it. No need to write it off because it says "When life is in discord, praise ye the lord." A lot of people "pray" or ask god for help when they don't know what else to do because it's a last resort =P

Anberlin – A Day Late Lyrics 16 years ago
I've definitely been in this situation. And not gonna lie it sucks.
I just got married to the love of my life.
But there's this guy who was a really really good friend. That I liked as more than a friend. The wedding was getting closer and closer and he would make a joke now and then about there not being a reception instead it'll be the divorce, and random stuff that made me wonder.
He has a fiance, since like 3 or 4 years ago. They were having problems.
Now I'm married. Now this guy and I are still friends, but now we talk about what could've been, but it's too late. Though he thinks I should just run back to him.
We had the chance but uncertainty got in the way.

I'm gonna have to agree with the good people on here who know what they're talking about.
The obvious: It's about drugs.
"White lines, black tar, the matches"
Chelsea hotel is not this thing in London, it's the one famous for Sid & Nancy. There was a book written by a guy that went around researching where famous "rockstars" either died or killed themselves. I can't remember what it is called but I have it somewhere.
"Bad turns to worse and the worst turns into hell" Kinda like Sid & Nancy in the hotel. Kinda like Kurt Cobain. Kinda like Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Hendrix, and every other musician that died because of wonderful drugs =]
"Kill yourself slowly over time" "They lied when they said that the good die young"
Those phrases go hand in hand. Drugs may not kill you right away and you might not die young. Or it could be turned into, since drugs are stereotypically bad, that if you're doing drugs you're bad so the bad die young. Ish.
I don't know why people brought anorexia into this since drugs make you skinny which is where "Fashion statement suicide" comes in. Because face it, if you're too anorexic or too hardcore into drugs, you're not gonna look good.
"Burning down neverland" "Burning down bridges" Neverland is supposed to be this fantasy land that you don't have to grow up. With drugs you tend to lose your sense of responsibility, the growing up part. Burning down bridges is like losing connections, losing friends or family that are sick of you and your choices.
I think Stephen Christian knows a lot about rock history and made a song so incredible it's like a puzzle to figure it out. Some points are obvious, others not so much. Hence this site to get all different aspects. [Wow I do sound hypocritical don't I]
