I was wondering if someone also caught up on this link, it makes so much sense though . . . "broke another mirror" could be a reference to Lithium as well ("broke our mirrors") and I totally forgot about his stomach pains the media's analogies between Kurt and Thom at that time also adds another element wouldn't limit it to exlusively being about Kurt in any case |

| Foo Fighters – Friend Of A Friend Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| um not quite . . . Kurt was pretty insane pretty much all of the time, and by the time Dave joined Bleach was already recorded and most of the songs for Nevermind had been written . . . just to clear things up | |

| Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
the first verse sounds like an introduction, (like "once upon a time") as the song progresses you get to know why the person changes, and it gets obvious . . . why did they change? because their wings were ripped. logically something else to consider is power play, why does he rip off the wings of a fly? Its meager and weak, just like kids torturing insect and rodents; it is because he can have power over the fly (ie the person)which would make him feel dominant. in the song you see that civilized hypocrissy of people being alowed to torture miniature creatures and the shock when someone commits homicide . . .it kinda looks the same from this angle. (Also a house of flies would probably need a corpse to attract them) |

| Alice in Chains – Dam That River Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| would have been kinda grungy if it's about a fight. Sorta mocks the masculine, ego-tripping vibe of guys trying to kick the shit outa eachother because they are oh so strong and manly. . . i'd say | |
| Rage Against the Machine – Freedom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
guess 3 mill could be those that have died from the Atlantic slavetrade working on American cotton and such. Or Indians. .. kinda comes down to the same thing. Excellent point about the AIDS virus and the US gov. never thought bout that. the diamonds part immediately brought up blood diamonds. early graves - child labour in African diamond mines and the child soldiers used in wars centered around the riches, which ultimately are sourced from Western companies buying these diamonds . . .the status symbols craved by their elites. |

| Rage Against the Machine – Fistful Of Steel Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Lotsa people are getting the basic message of that last verse. Its clear that the narrator is saying he would kill. I think the reason why some of us are pussyfooting around the issue is because it would be shocking to believe that Zack would murder or condone violence ( not that I'm saying he does). He has however said that if it is necessary he would kill for freedom i.e. be militant. I think the core lies in the shock experienced by listeners when they hear this. I mean, how many of you are willing to die or kill for such causes? This part kinda rips you out of complacency, doesn't it? This is why some make up excuses by giving softened-up interpretations, as a reaction to something like this that pulls at our "civilized" nerves. Still, there can be other meanings to the lyrics. Go ahead. Just an interesting phenomenon i saw in some of the comments. "Push the button" reminds me of nuclear warfare and the Big Red Button, which kinda fits with suicide. In a Cold War model both the USA and USSR would have destroyed eachother if they ever used nukes. Mutual Assured Death .... but enough of my shite |

| Queens of the Stone Age – Tangled up in Plaid Lyrics | 16 years ago |

if been getting that vibe all time aswell. itsnen is correct in the cutting references Qotsa have used alot of wellknown song titles (I can't quite you babe? ledzep), cleverly using the plaid to point at grunge and a kinda culturally accepted self-destruction in vogue. Which adds to the ambiguity as the Nick Olivieri thing also makes sense. |

| Mudhoney – Touch Me I'm Sick Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It goes both ways I think yeah you can say STD's but if you also read up on wikipedia youd see Arm imitates all the classic rock vocalists. I see the song as mocking the rock-shit that was MTV-ed everywhere when grunge was still grassroots, Hair type of "music" . Its a necessary parody for a sick scene |

| Mudhoney – In 'n' Out of Grace Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Love this song, the grace-neighbour theory sounds credible for Mudhoney, and with the ambiguity just increases the humour | |
| Mudhoney – Burn It Clean Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Overripe fruit... definately diarhea, with the burning being kinda obvious then Itching to Burn? That's so heroin-induced... supported with "gotta see it going in" the needle the last verse seems to be taking the piss outta corporate wherever |
