Bound by the satisfaction of having the upper hand in the relationship, his significant other left him thinking that the scars she gave him would stay with him for the rest of his life. He tells himself that the scars, the impact she had on his life was his own careless doing, and that nothing could not be replaced or healed. But then he sees that she was making no bluff, and she really started to leave his life, drift away. He spent so much time trying to show her who he was, and he never wanted to more than now. Everything he fought for in life has become latent and tasteless. He gives up on trying to show her everything he cared about and encourages himself to move on. Trying to bury his feelings for good, he experiences the true weight the relationship had on his life, he realizes he doesn't know who he is anymore. He doesn't feel real. Still, he cuts his losses and moves on. He realizes his scares may or may not go away, and all he has left to do is move on. He realizes that he has to find something greater, something better to live for. And he does, he overcomes the wall of pain and loss, his scars have gone away. And looking up at him, she never thought he would have made it so high without her. He encourages her to move on with him, and they work to make greater life achievements together. I think this is a great message, I really connect to it and I think it is a very mature perspective on dealing with lost love. Obviously, his words put everything much more in tune with the way things actually are. I don't think a lot of these things can be explained, only known, experienced, or felt. Regardless of who you are, if you have ever felt life has become somewhat tasteless, boring, or even "lifeless" after having lost something you felt was worth living for, this song is a universal message for bettering yourself, and making a new life for yourself. |

| Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Too me, this song is more about personal growth. Often in relationships, we doubt our ability to continue to make the other person happy. I think that has a lot of significance in this song. "Now that she's back in the atmosphere With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey" We know the deal. She has been out searching around, perhaps for entertainment, perhaps to find out who she is. "With drops of Jupiter in her hair" obviously impossible, an over-statement and a touch of imagery. What would drops of Jupiter look like? "She acts like summer and walks like rain Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey" This can have several meanings. The first thing that came to mind was that summer and rain are both seasons, they can change, which may connote the next line "reminds me that there's tim to change". It also could be that summer and rain are in a way diametrically opposed. Perhaps this girl buts on a very warm, charming face everyday, but on her own, she walks freely, independant perhaps. and melancholy like rain. This might represent her own personal struggle with herself, her struggle to find out who she is. "Since the return from her stay on the moon She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey " Again this line could have man interpretations. Besides the ones listed before, I think also he could using these over-statements to describe her vibrance and charisma. Perhaps he is so amazed about it, he suggests that her warmth cannot be distinguished from the summer, that she sounds like June. (that is if you like the way June sounds haha) Skipping through some things (its late and this is long lol) "Now that she's back from that soul vacation Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo Reminds me that there's room to grow, hey, hey" Obviously here we see that he is indeed talking about her finding out who she is, personal growth sorta thing, "soul vacation'. Tracing her way through the constellation, another exaduration, figuretive thing. I found the line about Motzart and tae-interesting. Firstly and most obviously, he is showing us how amazing this girl must be to him. Mozart and Tae-bo are cultured things. Cultured people are into cultured things. This girl has style. While he seems to be acusing her of not knowing what she wants in life, it seems that she does have her own thing going for her in reality. Perhaps he is jealous? Perhaps her personal growth has exceeded his? If you listen to the lyrics, you can feel an almost resentful vibe coming from the music, it seems as though he was left in the dust. I think that the fact that he used Mozart, something from a long time ago that old people might enjoy moreso then most youngsters, and tae-bo, something that is certainly popular today, and with young people (I don't know the extent of its age, but it has taken well to pop culture) shows a vast field of interests this girl has. I might argue that this girl is actually really confident in who she is, she just won't slow down for anybody. Now that she's back in the atmosphere I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land This line is very suggestive. The term "plain jane" usually refers to a girl, a rather plain one at that. (go figure) Does this appeal to homosexuals? I am just suggesting it might, I know many friends of mine are homosexual and enjoy this song. Anyways, just throwing that out there. Another thing I found about this plain jane notion, perhaps he feels so inferior to her, their roles have switched. What I mean is, perhaps she is wearing the pants now, because she is so far ahead of him. Throughout the song, he is constantly doubting himself, talking about there being "time to change", "room to grow" but never anything showing any sort of confidence. I think he must very much indeed feel threatened by this girl. "Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone conversation The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me" This part is a little harder to understand, but i still thought it was rather interesting. Generally speaking, I think he is asking her to remember to love the small things in life, but in a way that hints what he wants to tell her "Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken". Can you imagine no love, it is interesting to me that he put that first. Love is more significant so you would think he would save that for last. Perhaps this shoes how insignificant he feels his love for her is to her. The next thing on that list is pride. I think here is secretly trying to make her come off her high horse. "Hey, imagine how nice it would be if you wheren't so proud. Mabey you would love me." I think he mixed these three random things together to make them seem confusing so that she wouldn't pay too much to them individually, or it would give it away. "Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone conversation The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me" Again here he questions after being so high in the clouds, if she can still enjoy the simple things in life, "Can you imagine no first dance". "Freeze-dried romance". Remember when your mom used to make you those nasty peas from the freezer? Typically we don't associate things that are freeze dried as being too elegant. Perhaps that is how feels, not too elegent. Or is it because she is so awesome? (Notice he is doubting himself again). "five hour phone conversation", oftenly when people want to brag how good of f and in love they and their spouce are, they might say something like "we can stay on the phone for 5 hours!" Although we all know this doesn't mean much, I think it again shows his insecurity towards this women. "The best soy latte that you ever had", I just came to realize he has been trying to show her what he has to offer, not much. He isn't the CEO of some fancy company, he may not even be able to hammer a nail in straight, but he can make a good soy latte. (awe its so sad haha). "...and me". Yea, again he hints what he wants to tell her, only this time it is not a hint. He finally admits it, puts it out of the open, although shy, and perhaps even nervously. He again shows signs of low self-esteem (or mabey just humility, I'll give the poor guy a break) but at any rate he does this buy putting himself on that same list of freeze dried food, latte's, and fried chicken. Overall, I don't think the song has one meaning or primary theme. I am urged to say something like "it is about personal growth" or about "being left behind", but I think the only way to really put it is this song is what can happen when you are in love. The song is about the feeling of loss, perhaps envy, perhaps longing to better yourself. These are all timeless. I think this girl is exactly what most men want, a girl who independant, mature, mabey has her flaws, but that is ok. The kind of girl that makes you want to be a better person, the one you feel so far behind of. Someone who's animated, has wit, has charm, has charisma, but will still be sentimental, introspective. I skipped a lot, but it's late, and I wish not to beat this song a new meaning anymore than i already have. I typically don't listen to what is on the radio, and generally think 90% of whatever plays on the radio is shit. But I am genuinely impressed. This song is nothing short of amazing. In every aspect it is truely an amazing song. It changed my life, and I can totally relate to his perception of love because the same thing happened to me. I think me and the author of this song must think very much alike because these lyrics seem to make perfect sense to me. Thank you if you read this, I appreciate it a lot. |
