It's a Lovecraft mythos reference. Hetfield himself said it. Specifically it references Frank Belknap Long's short story the Hounds of Tindalos. For the uninitiated, imagine a pack of demon-wolves that hunt you down (without mercy) in your dreams (kinda like Freddy Krueger, eh?). |

The Misfits' early work was a little too punk for my tastes, but with the 1995 release of American Psycho, I think they really came into their own, both commercially and artistically. The whole album has a raw, but not discordant vibe which really spoke to the new generation of fans. Now most people don't listen to the lyrics---BUT THEY SHOULD! |

I think you're all missing the significance of the Romeo and Juliet references. It's obviously about a suicide pact. They're waiting in a field at the end to take their lives. The picking out a white dress is a clever way of Taylor telling us how cultured she is by noting the duality in the significance of the color white- it means purity in our western culture, but it's a color of mourning in eastern cultures.
As for the Scarlet Letter- Rev. Dimmesdale dies at the end. I take it the boyfriend dies at the end, too. Should have called the song Ghost Story. Maybe then you'd all get these obvious clues.
Or I'm way overthinking it and this is just a stupid pop song. |
