Green Day – Horseshoes and Handgrenades Lyrics 16 years ago
you know they could put up "messin around" or "playin around" or just edit it like they editied "faggot" did in American Idiot.

America's self-destruction via military-industrial complex, or is that WAY too left field?

Green Day – Restless Heart Syndrome Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song. I hope it doesn't get overplayed like "Blvd of Broken Dreams." And by the way, good posts everyone, couldn't have put it any better.

Green Day – Viva la Gloria! Lyrics 16 years ago
How our patriotism failed us and instead of leading us to glory led us to ruin. From the character's story, maybe its about Gloria's fall from grace and temptation to cast aside her idealism

Green Day – Murder City Lyrics 16 years ago
Christian and Gloria are realizing their dreams have all but died. Maybe as an allegory for how our generation feels pathetic and weak to stem all the decay of our society/nation.

Green Day – Last of the American Girls Lyrics 16 years ago
The funny thing is, I actually know girls like this. An ode to idealism, which is a dying as pessimism (and maybe a little but of apathy) is on the rise.

Green Day – Peacemaker Lyrics 16 years ago
Religious extremists and "justified" revenge. Just how dangerous religion can be; expounds on East Jesus Nowhere. Good follow up.

Green Day – East Jesus Nowhere Lyrics 16 years ago
Anti-religion. I always wanted to write a song like this one! How religion and politics inevitably intertwine, and sometimes lead to war and genocide.

Very touching love ballad

Green Day – Christian's Inferno Lyrics 16 years ago
hmmm...the dangers of religion or faith? "I am the atom bomb" Basically how religion can be an anathema for those with a grudge (who seek to justify revenge in the name of God) and therefore take away our restraint and "return man to ape." This one's kinda ambiguous, but as far as the love story, Christian's disillusionment?

A eulogy to American patriotism and the introduction to Gloria's idealistic character?

Green Day – Before the Lobotomy Lyrics 16 years ago
"Well I'm not stoned, Im just fucked up"
"I got so high, I can't stand up"
Sounds a bit like "Basketcase"
Maybe a bit more personal than at first glance. Perhaps Billie Joe is reminiscing on his own past here

Definitely about relinquishing self-control and giving into excess

Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown (Demo) Lyrics 16 years ago
This song serves well as an introduction into another album based on a socio-political commentary of the youth, as well as the people who should be taking the power into their own hands, instead of drinking the "poison" the "bastards of 1969." Its an attack on the ideals of the previous generation and this generation for failing to man up and change things; a call to arms, so to speak.
"My generation is zero
I never made it as a working class hero."
In a nutshell: the old American dream is dead, what is the next generation going to do?
Hope the rest of the album provokes as much discourse as this song did. Also, the music has improved: Butch Vig is a genious.

Green Day – Know Your Enemy Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is not anti-Bush. It's anti-apathy. Green Day moved on, why don't you?
