It seems to me that this song is About baptism, the way he talks about being washed in the water, amd how when he ascends from the bottom to be born again, and baptism is the process of washing away sins, and essentially the person you used to be and you come out of the water a new man, what do you think? |

personally i think this song is about someone, a guy, has loved someone else, a girl, for as long as he can remember and he has been trying to get her to love him back and eventually he succeeds.
and after some time she realizes he has become a completely different person (Excuse me, do I even know you?), maybe because he has gotten involved in drugs, or he has become famous and has gotten his head in the clouds. (I've been living in the light of the world,)
he notices that she has changed as well (The final piece that I need is that spark in your eye. Where did it go?) and he realizes that it is his fault and tries to fix it in multiple different ways including prayer (the sky hears my plea.), but has no idea of how (even you can't change me now.)
but in the end he decides to just go on admiring the girl from afar (maybe I was meant to live this way,
in a love struck kind of way.).

me too, i think this song makes alot of sense, and i agree that the violence is metaphorical, and i think that the part about ripping out the knees part is talking about god pouring out the plagues upon the earth as depicted in the book of revalations, which is in the bible. but keep in mind that even though satan is as evil as he is, god still loves him, after all satan is god's son. |

wow, i nearly become overwhelmed with the holy spirit every time i hear this song.
i know most people don't really care but i want to tell the story of what this song has done for me.
a few weeks ago i was having one of the worst days of my life, i had felt like god had completely deserted me because in the months before that day i had been spinning rapidly towards losing my faith.
and on this day something had happened that made everything 20 times worse.
when i was surfing the net i found this album, i had seen oh sleeper live once and thought that they were pretty good, but then i heard this song and decided to look up the lyrics, and when i was done listening and reading i was almost in tears. this song made everything that happened feel like nothing, that all i had to do was just ask for help from god then everything would be ok.
this song is without a doubt inspired by the holy spirit. |

i think that it has something to do wit strangling the person that he is talking about in the line before that part. at the beginning of the fast part i believe that he is saying something to the effect of "i mean i just want to strangle you so bad and choke you to death" so i hope that sort of answers your question. |
