"Downfall of Us All" is a song about the band's frustration towards their label AND themselves. The bridge says a good deal about it, "Don't forget yourselves, we made up our minds when we signed 3, 4, 5 on that dotted line." This refers to the 5 albums that they agreed to produce through Victory Records when they first signed on with them. It seems to me that the band wanted to sign with another label, but Victory shoved the papers that they signed in the band's faces.
The concept of this song is similar to Sara Bareilles's hit song, Love Song, as her label told her that she was not getting a lot of air time because she hadn't wrote a song about love. She quickly retorted with her OVERPLAYED song declaring, "I'm not gonna write you a love song, cause you asked for it, cause you need one, I'm not gonna write you a love song cause you tell me it's make or break in this old world."
