The line "God will give him blood to drink" comes from the novel "The House of Seven Gables" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. A man being hanged says that to his accuser who is hanging him on claims on witchcraft but he really wants his land. The accuser is latter mysteriously murdered. God did give him blood to drink. It's funny to see that line in this context. I love the Mountain Goats and their grasp on fine literature. |

The purpose of at least that part of the song is to show how tastless, unpredictable, and unreliable sexual urges are. Their un-constantcy shows how invlaid they are and how we should not base our life upon them. Aaron explains this so well, with adding humor, a raritey in mwY's lyrics. |
