This is totally right. At first I was all, "Oh, first love, holding hands, yay" and then my friend basically told me what you said here, and I can't think of this song the same way. It's still gorgeous, though. And my favorite one on this album. |

I don't think it's pessimistic at all. As much as I don't want to be "omg it's sooo good i love it" because I think there's a deeper meaning, i think it's mostly optimistic. Or at least realistic. Cause like, yeah, maybe the people you love now won't be the same later on, but everyone changes and relationships are always fluid. But the good part about that is, there WILL always be someone that you can listen to this song with and be in love. :) Also, this expresses optimism about whatever current relationship it's about...that it's strong enough to last for five years. I think the things he "imagines" did actually happen, but he's been separated from his love, and he knows that they WILL meet again.

This got me from the first verse...the first time i "cried my guts out til i got no more" was also the last and it was one of the times when i felt truly alive, so I completely relate to this song. Also, the part about caring too much about someone also got me...sometimes when you feel that strongly about someone it's really a reminder of your humanity and your potential FOR love, regardless of whether it's returned. Also, sitting down in the fresh-cut grass, thinking about the moment and when it will pass is AMAZING. I recently did that on top of a mountain in Scotland and it was beautiful and peaceful. This song captures so much of what living a full life is really like--it's not about "success," it's about being truly happy and comfortable with who you are. |

This is such a camp song. Well, to me anyways. It's about looking back on life-changing moments and realizing the change happened because we "put our feet where they had to go." But it's also about realizing that no matter how far away something might seem, it'll always come back and repeat itself. It's hopeful, and beautiful, and I couldn't think of better music to set these lyrics to. |

The lyrics are pretty simple, but still meaningful. I feel like I don't understand the entire meaning of "red is strong, blue is true," maybe someone has some insight on that? This makes me think of one of my best friends who lives halfway across the country--we're so close even though we don't see each other all the time, but we know that "some things last a long time," and our friendship is one of them. Also, I feel like the music just augments the lyrics; without that beautiful melody it just wouldn't be as meaningful. |

| Kings of Convenience – Stay Out Of Trouble Lyrics

"Stay out of trouble, stay in touch, try not to think about me too much."
That part really stays with me. This is a goodbye song, but at the same time it's a wistful goodbye. He still wants to be with her, and still thinks about all the times that they had, but he knows that things have to change eventually. But he doesn't want to let go, he wants to "stay in touch." At the same time, he wants to spare her the pain of thinking about him constantly, knowing that things will never been the same again. I don't think this is a breakup; I think it's a forced separation.
This is such a beautiful song. I love these artists! |
