But why would he not see her over emotional baggage? You can't see that. And she states she's grieving, sure, but why not put in the double meaning? It would reflect the shallow culture we live in. If you look at the order of events, she sends the picture and he doesn't show up. It's easy to see how there could be double meaning and I'm certain that it means she's both heavy from emotional burdens and maybe a little heavy set. It makes more sense and hits more topics. Broaden your horizons. |

I just got a lot of the meaning re listening to the song. Think of the name. It's Personal. But listening to Single M--his tone and words--he's as impersonal as it gets. Caroline sound's personable--like she's real. But Single M gives away nothing. He's a hollow robot. Shallow and impersonal. He doesn't even give his name or age. And he gives up based on her appearance, not even bothering to actually meet her. And his criteria for women sounds unbelievably precise. "Must enjoy the sun, must enjoy the sea." I think that he's someone who's been around the block quite a few times and has lost his fervor for love. Also, the last part is definitely a reflection of how he see's himself. He gives up without even meeting the person. Is it there problem, or is there something wrong with him? |

This song is about how shallow people are. Single F is obviously a girl looking for someone to want her and take her weight AND baggage and love her anyways. But Single M isn't as kind as he sounds and he ditches her after seeing her photo. Then when she reads his new add, she can't help but reflect if it's her or him. So basically what everyone else said. Beautiful song. |

| this song is great :) Finally a cool song about high school cliches. And whether or not they produce good bands, they're still one of the hard parts of growing up and this song is a major relief. | |

| NO! NO ZOMBIES! Though they are cool, it's metaphoric! And i totally think you're right. | |

This song is about Emily Haine's nerves about moving to a new place-where she wrote Fantasies-and even though it sounds like a song about a post apocalypse world with zombies, it's not. It's about how it feels to live in a new place with new people and new faces. Fantasies is wonderfully basic for Metric. "Take my pulse the pace is on a runaway train" means her heart is pounding because she's afraid. That's literal. "If you're still alive" If you haven't died because of my absence. "My regrets are few" then i don't regret doing this. "If my life is mine" If this truly is MY life, "What shouldn't I do?" Then why shouldn't i do what i want? "I get wherever I'm going" I get wherever i want to go on my own without anyone's help. "I get whatever I need" I get what i really need on my own. "While my blood's still flowing" while I'm still alive--moving hasn't killed me. "And My heart's still beating like a hammer" And my heart's still pounding because I'm nervous as hell. I tremble They're gonna eat me alive If I stumble They're gonna eat me alive -- If I mess up, the people in this strange, new place, are going to socially eat me alive. And i'll be nothing here. |

No one? Seriously? this is a stellar song! Well, here goes. This song is about the character, or patient, who doesn't want the same metaphoric and literal disease that everyone else has in these recent times. The patient is afraid that he'll just be another medical fool in history, suffering from this moral disease that seems to be attacking everyone like a freight train, forceful and unstoppable. The song says pretty clearly that the character thinks that this disease is going to kill us all, make us live in pain, and the character is looking for a way to prevent it: IE: Keep your parasites away from me, Mamma save me come on and vaccinate me. But I could be wrong. |

| Mother Mother – Verbatim Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Yeah, missing a majorly cool line. And it's pretty plain to see the meaning. It's a stand about how a guy doesn't have to eat nails for breakfast to still dig chicks, and about loving a sort of backwards guy, which is truly what girls want. "A man who can slap but can also stroke." It also speaks about how change is in the air, and they have to deal with the hard facts. "Goin' in the wind is an eddy of the truth and it's naked" Verbatim means a direct quote, so that means that the truth is a straight quote, rolling on an eddy, or a mini cyclone. |

| Mother Mother – Oh Ana Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think this song is about someone trying to play god with their victim, Ana. Now I don't know if Ana's a child, but it seems a lot like the character is trying to play god with Ana's life, but they just can't bring themselves to kill her. The first verse speaks right out about death, and killing themselves, but they can't seem to do it right, so they gamble with Ana's life, the second verse, and then the third is about the world going to hell... So maybe this song is more than the characters. It speaks about torturing self, others, and then the world as a whole, and how the character still isn't crazy compared to the world. |

| Metric – Hustle Rose Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think Hustle Rose is definitely in the POV of the man. Hustle Rose is, in my opinion, a prostitute soliciting the man, who's obviously looking for something at the Sardine Nightclub, which probably means it's packed with people looking for women like Hustle Rose. "Now that your wallet is all lit up, you're gonna wanna wear it out" I think this line means that now that you've worked hard for your money, you're going to want to spend it on the prostitute, and wear it out. Obviously, the song is about how the man has broken from the monotony of his tight work dreams, into the monotony of loose prostitutes, and how he's fallen for a prostitute in particular, Hustle Rose. You could throw me a bone If I get too close you wake me up remind me softly to go If I forget won’t you wake me up Remind me not to feel a thing Keep the dream tight I can’t feel a thing My dreams are so tight I think these lines are saying that he doesn't want to leave Hustle Rose when it's done and over, and go back to the monotony of his tight dreamed life. Or at least that's how I see it. :) |
