The Strokes – 12:51 Lyrics 16 years ago
My take on it:

I think it's about a guy who likes a younger girl. Like he's in this mid to late twenties and the girl he likes is young enough to still live with her parents, so maybe 17 or 18.

"Talk to me now I'm older" He wants her to talk to him because he's older than most guys, making him cooler...idk.
"You friend told you cause I told her." The girl's friend told her that this guy likes her, because he told her frien.
"Friday nights have been lonely." He's been lonely lately.
"Change your plans and then phone me." He wants to hang with her.

"We could go and get 40's." They could go and get 40-proof liquor- cause he's at least 21.
"Fuck goin' to that party." They could get drunk at home instead of going to a party.
"Really your folks are away now?" Her parents aren't home.
"Alright let's go, you convinced me." They'll go hang out, she convinced him.

"12:51 is the time my voice found the words I sought" He found the words to tell her he likes her at 12:51...
"Is it this stage I want?" He's asking himself if he really wants to have sex with this young girl...
"The world is shutting out....for us. We were tense for sure, But we was confident..." I think refers to when they first had sex together.

"Kiss me now that I'm older" He wants to make out with her.
"I wont try to control you" He's trying to assure her that he won't control her because he's an older guy.
"Friday nights have been lonely" Once again, he's been lonely.
"Take it slow but don't warn me" Because she's so young, she wants to take it slow, and he agrees, but he just doesn't want to know that she'll take it slow.

All hte previous was hypothetical...It's what he imagines their relationship could be. And the following is like an actual phone conversation they have to get their relationship on track to be like that....

"We'd go out and get 40's, Then we'd go to some party." What they would do.
"Oh really, your folks are away now?" Her parents aren't home.
"Alright I'm coming...I'll be right there." He wants to go hang out with her.

I think that's what it means...That's just my interpretation...

I think it refers to a guy in his mid to late twenties, who likes a girl who is 17 or 18.

If you just read the lyrics with that in mind, it makes sense.

BTW, 40's refers to 40 proof liqor.

I love this song because the lyrics perfectly describe me and the guy I like, who likes me back, but we aren't dating for various reasons...
