I agree with most peoples' interpretations on here, the lyrics are not criticising the solider, just explaining about how going to war and fighting isn't as glorified as it may be portrayed in the media and theres a lot to live with for the solider's simply doing their job. I particularly like the line 'a flag as white as snow' when referring to the woman who he shoots. This shows, to me, that in the heat of the moment he had to make a decision and felt threatened by her so had to shoot, but the flag as white as snow shows that she was infact innocent, making the guilt he has to live with seem even harder. Really powerful song, one of my favourite on the new album :) |
