Most beautiful song i've ever heard, it makes me want to cry. Story may have been told a million times before but never better in my eyes. I think its about naivety and the disillusionment, heartbreak that inevitabley follows. Themes remind me of arcade fire's wake up and tunnels.

Firstly - excellent cover. I think it's more about the importance of faith rather than the futility of organised religion - at least in the killers version. The added "you'd better look alive" i think lends to this: maybe it is faith which helps us look alive in hard times. Great song. |

I think it's pretty much about a girl who's committed suicide. The high lonesome sound is the noise made when she hits the pavement. The counting crows reference gives weight to this seeing as in round here, maria is suicidal. |
