| Annuals – Hardwood Floor Lyrics | 16 years ago |

The way I see it, this song is about emotional defences and shields. "I keep patching my roof up Still, the rain falls on my side of the door Now my hardwood floor It swells and it moans like it hurts" The hardwood floor is the core, the heart or soul, which these emotional defences have failed to protect, and as a result has been warped by the 'rain'.. It's an extremely laboured metaphor, but the best part of the song is its lovely, cosy, free-form vocal break anyway, which has far more expression in its fuzziness than these clunky verses manage. Nice. |
