I don't know if anyone already said this, but I for some reason when first heard it thought it was about like a non=religious person who's about to die, or kill themselves, which sounds really depressing,but it kind of to me feels like he's at peace with it. Like the "ascension" lines could be like he's ascension to the afterlife that isn't like any place that any religion has described, and maybe it's kind of like the moon is now his realization to that he'll be okay... I'm probably wrong,but...whatever, haha. |

This song reminds me of something like the 50's. Like this idea of everyone is "perfect" but if one saw what it was really like in these perfect houses they would see the reality, that people are putting wine in their coffee cups, that there are roaming blackouts on the street, that these kids are foaming at the mouth. and the "until the news is good" is like people are being forced to hide what they're really feeling. Kind of re-iterations of what others have said, but...yeah. haha |

I think fear of beauty or something along those lines...She doesn't feel beautiful with this person. They make her feel bad about herself so she only feels comfortable dancing in the dark. This song is truely spectcular probably my favorite Gaga ever. |

Me too! i alwyas thought this song had an holocaust view to it, for some odd reason. the lines: Be afraid of the lame, they'll inherit your legs (The handicapped) Be afraid of the old, they'll inherit your souls (The Jewish people) Be afraid of the cold, they'll inherit your blood (The homosexuals) It's almost like saying be afraid of them or you'll realize they're no different than anyone else. It won't be long until you realize a handicapped person has legs just like you. I'm 99% sure I'm wrong but...that's just what I thought when I first heard the song. |

I have a feeling that this song is about maybe something to do with god. The "I'm dying to know" part just makes me feel like she's asking god that...in an angry fashion. Also maybe about if you'll be ready for the fact that nothing in life is permanent, displayed by the first set of verses. Also the idea of nothing is how it seems, which is kind of obvious. Originally it was fact the earth was flat, but that wasn't true. Maybe this song has to do with a death? Like will you be ready for the non-permanence, of life, and the sudden coming of death. ADORE this song. Favorite on Ellipse next to Canvas, and Little Bird. |

This song confuses me...it seems like it should be very obvious it's meaning, but...The obvious interpritation is "The people that make fun of god and religion aren't making fun of it when bas stuff happens". To me that sounds a little vengeful, and mean. I don't think Spektor is that type of person who'd write about revenge on athiests. I could see this song being about when people make fun of god, and then when bad things happen they suddenly become religious, but again it still seems...wrong. I think this song is about rolling with the punches. About how when bad things happen no one's laughing, including God, but when good things happen we're all laughing with god. I think that last line is what really ties that together. |

I have read a lot of the interpritations of Hide and seek. First off I will say I understand where a lot of them are coming from, but frankly think most are wrong. I think you're taking the lyrics way to literally. Imogen is known for more symbolic lyrics as opposed to literal. I think this song could have two meanings. One could be about just change and the realization that the place you've known isn't there anymore, or is completly different. You're hiding and seeking from that truth. OR- The song could be about global oppression. That idea represented in a house without furniture or happy memories. The "They were here first" line makes one think of say the Holocaust or maybe Native Americans. I don't think heap meant to be so literal as "The Holocaust" or "Native Americans" but the idea of what happened to them and the sweaping insensitiveities. |

I heard (don't remember where)that this song was about Karen who wants to settle down and have kids with a man she loves, and then Prescilla, is this Femme Fatale who tries to get this same man, and Bat is trying to tell Prescilla that Karen really loves him, and not to seduce the man. Very reminiscent to the whole Pearl story, and the Siren Song in a way. I have a feeling Natasha has had problems with cheating men in the past. |

The Video...it makes me think that the song ties in with the idea of the Two Suns album. That the two suns are Natasha, and Pearl, and that Pearl actually has the suns, but Natasha was promised hers if she won some battle...(Maybe the battle between the dark people in Daniel?? just a though) but then Pearl went back on her promise. Or maybe it's like she was promised her sun for winning the battle, and the video is the stage of where she was to be given the sun, and when Pearl doesn't give her the sun, maybe she realizes she should run (to any kingdom). Then Pearl goes and tries to take over Natasha's body (since Pearl is a state of mind that only comes out every once in a while) or in essence Natasha becomes a bad person, but then Pearl is killed by the magical protection of the wolf, and planet...thus in a way Natasha is not giving into the temptation to become a greedy indulgent person; who is symbolized as Pearl... Again with the idea of the Two suns though, maybe the whole idea is that you can't live without darkness in your life, or Pearl, or the other sun, that they need to be equal? Or maybe that if Darkness (Pearl) is engulfing your life then you don't get a sun, and in order to you need get the sun you need to defeat Pearl. I dunno...maybe I'm reading wayyy to much into it, but whatever...it's a fun and cool song, and it's fun making up storied based on them! :) |

| I think this song definitely deals with feeling abandoned by god,and faith in a crazy time like JayC614 said, "Where did you go? where did you go? How did you know to get out of a world gone mad?" seem to point that she feels like Maira has abandoned her. Also the "I need you to tell me Child be still child be still" part is like her saying basically "Yo god i need some proof you didn't leave us in this bull-shit world". | |
