i think this song MIGHT just be about "rape". "Scratch card glory or waist low pleasure?" it kinda says, "you want to be happy now? or just rape me and get 'pleasure'?" "Black eyes nose bleeds, don't look back now" you've already hurt, don't try to take it back "My white abode, do you remember? My white abode" the term "abode" means home. and white represents purity. so maybe, "do you remember back when i was pure?" "But it's such a thrill just to find out" i'll let you do it just because i want to see what it's like. "Sorry you're not a winner" this might reflect back to the first line of the verse, mentioning that you're a winner (of those scratchcards). "With the air so cold and a mind so bitter" "with the air so cold"--it's not as great as you wanted it. "a mind so bitter"--you might've done this out of bitterness. "What have you got to lose but false intentions and a life so pretentious?" what have you lost besides your false intentions and your life, so unjust? |

| this is DEFINATELY one my favorites of the album. it's not your typical green day song, which is what i love about it. it basically starts off acoustic, which is really unlike green day. i love the vocals in the song, especially the falsetto in the chorus. i love this song so much. | |

I think everyone here has a the right idea, and I'll just expand:] So I think that this song is actually about Taking Back Sunday, but has a bigger emphasis on Adam. I understand why Adam would get fired up and write a blog about it, I mean that first line, "These four years were a suicide", ouch. Those are some pretty powerful words by Fred. I heard that Fred and the rest of the band used to fight and argue a lot, like my band and me. Whenever I'd come up with an idea, they would just shoot me down, which I'm sure Taking Back Sunday did to Fred. Like this_glass_house said, I believe most of Fred's influence and sound came out during the Where You Want To Be record. However, in Louder Now, everything turned and Fred got overrun. And honestly, I know how that feels, so I totally feel Fred's pain. He seems like such a humble guy, it's terrible that a band would treat him that way. But it is a good thing that his departure was so peaceful, ending with dinner with Matt Rubano:] <3 love ya Fred! (he was always my favorite member of TBS) |

this song is great. in my opinion, this song's lyrics seem to have a deeper depth over adam's older lyrics. anyways, what i think: i think this song is basically a guy who is willing to do anything for a girl. even if it has to hurt him. i believe the first verse has a sarcastic tone to it, and the first half of the chorus is basically the guy trying to show the girl how he feels, "Well I'd like to see all roles reversed". and the second half of the chorus telling her that he tries to be perfect to win her back, "I keep my grammer well rehearsed": meaning that he makes sure that everything he says to her gets to her. and basically, the song goes on from there. just my opinion:D |

i think this song is basically a story... first off, the narrator broke up with a girl. and eventually, he starts to realize what he had, so he tries to go back to her, hoping for another change. however, the girl has already "found" someone else ("But you didn't mean it 'cause now you're all over him". and the narrator starts to remember back on the memories, like when she told him, "Together until the very end" and "Baby, don't worry, you mean more than the world". and when he thinks about these memories, he starts to feel anger and resentment, hence the sarcasm in "I guess the world is worthless..." And years/months later, he's "older and stronger", but still misses her. And he thinks "how much longer 'til he finds a girl that's 'hotter'?" The narrator thinks her new man is just into her for her looks. So he's still waiting for her... the end. i love this song because it's my current life situation :[ [or vice versa, the girl might've broken up with the guy.] |
