Sometimes, it's not obvious what his songs are about until he does that Conor-thing where he warbles a quick sentence about what the next song is about, during live performances. During the Digital Ash Tour, he'd say, before this song, "This song's about our good friend, Temptation." And, then, of course... It all comes together... He talks about giving into temptation during the first verse, and not thinking so much about it or dwelling... Just do it, just do it, and don't think about tomorrow. The rest of the song continues the idea that, with choices comes thoughts of/and consequence. In this case, the decisions/consequences have to do with, love & accidental love, or leading someone on, or sex. All is summed up in the final line, which is a very deep feeling, just knowing from personal experience... There are things that you know you should not do... Things that will have consequence... Things that hold the devil inside... And, sometimes, you may have already made the mistake once or twice, so you bury it in the past/ground. And, if, for a second, you make yourself believe otherwise... You give in, again. Goddamn, love you, Conor AND Mogis. That incredibly-delicious, addictive riff that is played after the second chorus, chills my bones. <3 |

| Man! First of all, your username is great. Saves The Day is so sweet. Second, you posted this awesome entry on my birthday. And, foremost... Marvelous observation! Conor has always been one to drug it up, ya know? It's just a natural assumption to believe this is all about a girl. ...Surprised I never really thought of that drug-interpretation, myself. Good job, thisisnotanexit. :D | |

Definitely in the top three of Conor's well-written songs. Fuck. This is seriously, astonishing. So simple. But, just so damn relative. I love you, CO. |

This song makes me feel like it's definitely personal to Conor. He did lose a friend, and was grieving at the time of writing this, but the parts about not being alone in anything and not being unique and dying seem to speak to himself just as much as someone else. He's been such a sad, sad singer almost all-until this album. Maybe he's in a new phase? Grown tired of self-loathing. Time for a bigger picture. I don't know but, Conor is just incredible. Conor Oberst forever. -MJL. |

Man, makes me wanna find my very own Arienette. This song is so dark, yet romantic. Wow, so beautifully simple. That's a real love, ya know? ...Someone who'd stick with you through your fevers and your vast lands of miseries and tragic thoughts. If you can beg someone to stick with you through something sickening and scary, and they actually stay with you... That's beautiful. This song is my favorite to listen to right now. Any Oberst fan knows that your favorite Conor-song changes almost daily. This one... Man. I love you, Conor! I'll be your Arienette. -MJL. |
