I always just figured that the song was about some amateur doing driving stunts for a low-budget movie. Most of the lines can be interpreted sexually, but I never thought it was about porn. If that is the main idea, then how do you explain the line about the wedding ring? |

I agree about the Tom Thomson part, however i think that there`s also more to the song than that, like the bit about the Opera house. Does anyone know what that means? |

I wouldn't say that the highwayman would be normally considered a villain. He's playing a role more along the lines of Robin Hood, where common people would have seen him as a hero, and only the rich minority would have seen him as a villain. |

I'm pretty sure it's named after that town. It's the type of place where city light doesn't wash out the stars, hence, being able to see the constellations so clearly. |

I think it's a metaphor for the wild sort of years of early adulthood, and then being tamed and settling down later on in life, for love. |
