I love this track, simple and fucking BEAUTIFUL.
I really dig the lothario part.
I think the songs pretty obvious once you read the lyrics. It's about how we are born innocent and pure and wish to die the same way, however everything in the middle (the majority of our life) just makes us disgusting, greedy, hypocrites.
Their lyrical composition is amazing, perfectly illustrating what they want to say without being completely blunt about it.
I also like the "bitten by brutality" part. All of us have this secret dark side (an underbelly) because of our instinctual feral nature; after all, we're just born that way. |

This song fits perfectly in the nearly flawless album the xx has created. It follows the general theme of losing something/ giving something up (probably love) that all the other songs on the album do. I love the loud clap, symbol smash, or whatever it is during the chorus. Just smoke a little reef and listen to this album, tranquility will ensue. |

I love the funky feel of this song!
I think I'd call it Folk-Funk haha, say it out loud and try not to laugh or at least smirk.

I agree with spacedoilies in a way, although i think the lyrics are more about rape, incest, and other sexual crimes -- in general. While at times i feel as though saul takes the part of one of the young boys who "marked" this girl, I believe he doesn't remain that character for the rest of the poem. He jumps around, talking about this poor girl Mary, who's brother "left footprints on the inside of his sister's eyelids" then he talks about himself and a rediscovery or awakening. Most of the lyrics are vague, like most of saul's stuff, however I can't help but feel incredibly sad after listening to this. I get the feeling as though nothing is better and all the characters in the story are forever en route to a better place, never actually finding it. |
