To my surprise, kutterk is right. Well, partly. I think the song as a whole is about how experiencing loss makes you think about your own mortality, and the importance of giving yourself a purpose in life. He talks also about how loss can lead to anger and temptations of revenge, but "Revenge ain't no solution to the inevitable pain that every single one of us must face in losing the kindred spirits in our lives." True story, Hannah. Anyway, kickass song, I would argue one of Propagandhi's best. |

| Well, I don't think this song really requires explanation. I have Christian friends, but sometimes I have to just walk away when they get into their "righteous rage" mode. Can't argue with blissful ignorance, but it's fun to try. I love when they get all pissy. | |

Firesetsboy, you said exactly what I was thinking when I was reading that other interpretation, so right on. Expulsive, are you serious? You seem more interested in inserting your own political leanings into the conversation than anything else. You criticize his songwriting as "oversimplification" as if you're not guilty of that yourself in your little review. The comment "he's fallen into the all too familiar trap of emphasising the 'story' (as in, a factual and objectively viewed narrative) in 'history'" makes it completely obvious that you've missed the point entirely. And the whole Marxist/feminist thing? Come on man, go back to watching Sean Hannity. Did you steal this album from your grandson or something? Anyway, I think Firesetsboy described this song pretty well. As it says at the beginning of the hilarious Hollywood comedy Braveheart, "History is written by those who have murdered heroes." |
