I was just thinking... people say this is about Max. But a lot of these lyrics were part of the original demo for Always Where I Need To Be, which was recorded when Max was still in the band... it might like, go out to him, but I don't see how it could be written about him. (the lyrics do fit the Max-situation though) |

I think this song is about holding on to what you love and your way of expression, even though people might think you're crazy, but they just don't understand your art. Your time will come, just hold on. For the Kooks it really did, and that changes people's opinions on you. I think there's some girl that he really liked before but she rejected him, ("cast away these chains, love me better" - he wanted her to look past her prejudices and just like him the way he is) And now she's knocking at his door (figuratively speaking), 'cause his time has come and he's gotten famous for that art she didn't understand, but he won't let her in this time. |
