AFI – Kiss and Control Lyrics 13 years ago
Davey Havok is well read. I feel that a lot of his lyrics are influenced by Shakespearean tragedy. I believe this song may be an attempt at a modern day Romeo and Juliet. The two lovers die together and become famous for it. Its a play on Shakespeare's tragedy.

AFI – 100 Words Lyrics 13 years ago
I can't help but think that Davey Havok and I seem to be similar in every way. Every time I listen to a new album I feel like Davey is specifically referring to something in my life. I know a lot of fans feel this way, but there are certain little lyrics that I have actually said at one time or another before I have even heard the album. You can't make this up... One night I was talking to my friends, we had just come from a place where the inside of the doorway to the bathroom was made with this glass that looked as if it were diamonds, and it was cracked. I was at an all time low that night and I told my friends that I wish I could set the sky on fire. The idea was that everyone I ever missed would see me again. As we would all see the burning sky together. We did drugs back then, and we went to my friend's house where we had loads of pills. I mixed a cocktail of so many different drugs.. I wanted to get so high I'd forget everything. I didn't care if I died. I was crying because I felt this way, and one of my friends commented "Don't worry you're golden." To this I said something to the effect of my tears look like gold falling and then glitter as I began to get high. I really did think that I lit the sky on fire that night, and I fell off of something and imagined that I was falling from a building. The next morning I woke up, and someone in the house said "My God Dave, You were crazy last night." Ok... My name is not Dave. And from that point on I never did drugs again after I looked at where I was and saw myself in the mirror and how broken I looked. I told one of my closest friends there with me about my experience and he quit using too. So... We're no longer confined because yesterday I burnt the sky. Davey.. How do you know me?

AFI – Cold Hands Lyrics 13 years ago
Ok a lot of people have been saying that Davey Havok has this story that he doesn't want anyone to know, and has been writing about it for a while. I'm pretty sure the ending happened in Crash Love. I wont tell the story out of respect for Dave, but a similar thing happened to me. It involves being introduced to love, before you are mature enough to cope with heartbreak. And this is where I'm going completely off the wall.. I'm study English literature at my university.. and one thing I learned is that a poet must be able to feel things more deeply in order to represent them in the way that they do. This makes a true poet a person with this unique sensitivity. I do believe that this sensitivity to things translates into every aspect of their life. Now.. that being said. I believe that Dave is this way, because his lyrics are that of a poet. This sensitivity to the feelings of heartbreak is what has given him so much success. In a sense his own trauma fuels his lyrics and makes him what we love. The lyrics on the past three albums have shown this. He Sing the Sorrow is essentially about finding the beauty in sorrow and the eloquence that comes from it. He is in a sense stating his case. Decemberunderground seems to be about the way that we feed off of his sorrow and find support in his suffering is actually taking a toll on him. (Just listen to 37 mm) Finally Crash Love is an acknowledgement that the world is going to be the way it is and you don't have to conform to it. Also that sometimes that which we love turns out to be a type of poison to us and we need to break free from our infatuation with whatever it may be in order to move on. I think this song does it. This is Davey finally saying enough is enough. There is closure in admitting that he was wrong and that the object of his affection must be replaced. Though there is the fear at the end. Who will appear when he is gone? If he forgets the things that are killing him.. Who will be there for all of his fans who are still suffering? I believe this to be something the man is facing... and if we are true fans we should just let him go. We should be open to a completely new AFI and not depend on them to comfort us in misery.

Chevelle – The Clincher Lyrics 13 years ago
No doubt the song is about claustrophobia.. I mean they said it themselves. But I do believe this song is deeply rooted in Christianity, as the band members have Christian beliefs. Also it depends on what context the term claustrophobia is used in. Someone who is claustrophobic is afraid of being in small confining spaces. This could also be related to religion in that believers feel confined within society. I personally believe, but I'm not forcing my views on anyone else. I'm just going to point out a few things in the song that relate it to Christianity. The song points strongly to crucifixion (which in itself is a kind of confinement). I would also like to point out that when one is executed by crucifixion they do not die from blood loss or shock, but from lack of oxygen due to the way in which they are hung. They are in a sense suffocated from no longer being able to support their body in a way that allows their lungs to fill with air. People with claustrophobia often describe that they feel as if they are suffocating. Now the evidence that supports this is in "Could we have known, never would I, help to nail down." and "The brain needs oxygen." Even the screaming of "now saturate the earth." can be tied into this in that the earth is being saturated with blood. I believe that there is a dual meaning linking the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ to Claustrophobia. This song seems to be coming from the point of view of a man confined in society that wishes to make a change in his life as to "Stand for nothing less" than his faith in God and realizes the sacrifice of a savior was more than he ever could hope to deserve. Hence "Could we have known.. never would I." Maybe this means that if he knew his sins were nailing Jesus to the cross he would not have committed them. Or that line could be from the point of view of one of the Roman soldiers that took part in the execution and would not have had he known he was killing the son of man. There seems to be guilt by the narrator for the person being nailed down. This is where the clincher as a title makes sense. The Clincher is that it should be you and me nailed down and not a completely innocent man, but it is not. That is one of the strong points of Christianity, pretty much all Christians realize this clincher at some point, for most it's what causes us to believe.

AFI – The Great Disappointment Lyrics 16 years ago
This song should have won a grammy. There should have been a video. And there should have been a party. This song is the Edgar Allan Poe of songs. There is no other way to describe it. So sorrowful yet so beautiful. All commendations to AFI aside, this song may really be about the great disappointment.

William Miller a Baptist preacher prohesised that Jesus would return to Earth in the year 1844. He even predicted down to the day that that the lord would return: October 22, 1844. Miller gathered a following called the Millerites. When Jesus did not appear on October 22, 1844 everyone in the group was severely disappointed. This even led to psychological turmoil in some of the people. I think Davey is trying to express how the Millerites might have felt. This might also be personal to him, maybe he is writing about his own life and being disappointed by religion.

AFI – ...But Home Is Nowhere Lyrics 16 years ago
Sing the Sorrow was AFI's greatest album, and it will be hard for them to top it. This is a truly well put together song, so many elements and and in your face chorus. I love that this song is on the album as "...But Home is Nowhere" "Untitled" and "This Time Imperfect". What a way to end an amazing record. This album has been an inspiration to me. I think that one day Sing the Sorrow will go down as one of the greatest albums in rock history. If AFI has a "black album" well here it is. Say hello to the rock n roll hall of fame with this one guys, because you'll get in eventually. And you will find your "home".

AFI – Endlessly, She Said Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with Laurelinwyntre. AFI are huge fans of the Misfits and I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in a lyric to pay homage to them.

Like xxxer I did hear Dave whisper something along the lines of "she made me love her"

This is a great song and it should have been one of the singles off of this album. Miss Murder was the only single that I thought would be one. I was thinking they would have four singles in "Endlessly She Said" "Kiss and Control" "Miss Murder" and "Summer Shudder". Love like winter was absolutely horrific, The missing frame was better but still lacking. Endlessly She Said is a greatly emotional bittersweet song that deserves radio play.
