| furthermore. it isn't really even tragic if you think about it. if we created this world. we can fix it. | |

| its not nihilistic. it's an answer to the question, "why is this happening to me/us?" it's about taking responsibility. it's saying we created the world we are living in. and the last line, 'it's time now to burn." that's just the closer. we made the bed, now it's time we lay in it. | |

| i've listened to the song. it's definitely not instrumental. although the words all but inaudible. I have no idea how this person was able to figure any of these lyrics right. | |

Rated 0 rate down rate up Trees, wood, and the forest is definitely a theme seen throughout the album. I think when he is talking about forests he is using it as an analogy to family. If you think about it it makes sense too in that trees roots are all knotted up and intertwined underneath the surface. The way he talks about forests in this song and especially in bought a bride makes me think he is using forest in place of family. |

What you say here makes sense but I think there is more to it than that. There are also a lot of illusions to death. The obvious ones are the post-chorus lyrics about tying her to the train tracks. He also says he should have been a soldier so he could have fought and died. Then at the end he says "coming down the aisle while the horns play taps." Agains, this is a reference to a soldier's funeral. His final lyric is "go and buy a hammer, never sing again." Maybe to turn the wood mentioned at the beginning of the song to build a casket? And never singing again is obviously an illusion to dying. |

This is a very complicated song. And I can't say that I really understand it. But I am going to pretend like I do and throw an idea out there. At least that might get some discussion about this song going. The overall theme of this song is obviously confusion. Maybe that's why the lyrics take the course that they do, but it is talking about how confused he is about who is as a person. "I am the only one that thinks I am crazy." This is centered around the fact that he was brought up one way and became a completely different person than what was expected. "I am the only son of a pastor I know who does the things I do." The second verse is the confusing part though. Anybody who knows anything about Andy Hull knows that his dad is his best friend so for him to say he is a bastard son is very confusing. But he throws in that "he knows the bastard too." He then follows with "because it was you I called it a different story, but if I was you I'd make this a simpler story." I think maybe what he is saying here is that he misplaces the blame for the things that he has done. He starts by saying "it was you." Maybe saying it was your fault. And then says "but if I was you I'd make this a simpler story." Maybe that is saying that the story isn't really that complicated. Everything is really my fault I have just been blaming others. In this case, I think that would mean he is calling himself the bastard. He created the mistake ridden person that he is but ignored himself (making himself an abandoned creater or a bastard). ....That might be a stretch and by all means....correct me. |

| I will agree that it would make sense for it to be about the death of John Pike. Unfortunately, John is actually the person who wrote this song. It is one of the five songs on the cd that were written before his tragic death. | |
