Kaiser Chiefs – Love's Not A Competition (But I'm Winning) Lyrics 16 years ago
"...could mean everything that was done in the relationship was not questioned before, but now that the spouse is trying to break free from the (mental shackles)..."

I can really resonate with this as hindsight is always 20/20. My long standing girlfriend and I recently underwent a horrible breakup, but it was after all the emotions had died down that we really started to understand one another, and she really began revealing some truths to me. What it boiled down to was that this whole time that I thought I had been loving her to the best of my ability (and I was), in her eyes, she just loved me in an entirely different way. She basically told me that if I had learned to loved her the same way she had loved me, then we would still be together.
"I'm not sure, what's truly altruistic, anymore, When every, good thing that I do is listed, and you're keeping score," really got to me because what I believed in my mind to be doing all the right things (my own personal truth) still wasn't good enough for her. All the good things I did WERE in fact listed and she understood my caring for her, but I guess I really never opened my self up to her like she needed."Love's not a competition but I'm winning... At least I thought I was, but there's no way of knowing" I really thought I was winning by showing her the love I had for her, but there was no way of knowing that it wasn't right kind for her after all...
