| Modest Mouse – Satellite Skin Lyrics | 16 years ago |

"Just enough just to say you don't mean it Well, when everybody's willing to listen Oh satellite, satellite skin You can say what you want you're forgiven Well happy fucking congratulations Well everyone, everyone wins Just like being in my own solar system Doing good things but then totally eclipse them Oh what the use, oh what the hell" this section makes me think of someone who is cut off...excommunicated...by "butterfly knives" perhaps (?) not just a satellite, off in their own solar system...and the futility of efforts "eclipsed" (what the use...what the hell). not sure about it, but satellites being typically used for communication, "everyone's willing to listen" (isaac's voice even sounds like he is mocking their coaxing "you can say what you want your forgiven" the following "happy fucking congratulations...everyone wins" is painful, as it is clearly not so for this one who comes from a place of vulnerable sincerity...and aloneness.. it's a bit bitter and very mournful...could describe any number of falling outs, religious or otherwise but the video definately adds a cultish dimension, and the last stanza becomes pretty ominous. It's like he sees through their "skin" (the thinness of the words they hide behind) but he hopes they don't see his "morbid opinions" so he can pretend not to know better, thus relying on his own satellite skin. |

| Bob Dylan – Gonna Change My Way of Thinking (2003 version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Wow, thanks for that insight...mpr played about 5 hours of Bob the other night, his music is unlike other, and totally speaks to faith and doubt of any 'true' believer/seeker, to my mind. your comment really sheds a lot of light, esp.."Gonna sit at the welcome table, I'm as hungry as a horse."... like, being labelled something other than "welcome" for so long, he's starving... but, maybe getting older he's caring less about who "makes the rules" - whether he can eat or not... idk...' he's freakin beautiful. |

Totally astute observation....based solely on lyrics, can't wait to listen to the cd but i wonder if the music will detract from the words which alone are killer sorrowful. i <3 elliot smith. |

| sarahlynn, your interpretation is so generous; maybe you should rewrite the song, enlist the help of the tattooedharpist and make something less likely to induce the gag reflex. | |

I'm totally with Mike 818whatevers on this, i don't feel sorry for this joe at all. i suspect that the woman is married, hence the white dress (are those lyrics accurate?).. and what if the guy she left with was just a friend, or relative, or the drummer? ...he's there with all his friends, right? sorry. this song reeks a bit of overly dramatic ego... the bright eyes/explosions/okkerville sound mentioned earlier definately has it's hook, but i'm annoyed already and thinking the narrator should consider himself lucky he wasn't tangling with something more deadly and lost his head altogether. i'd rather endure thirty days of bright eyes or stinking casiotone for the painfully alone than have to hear this one more overexposed time. barf and as for the brilliant poetic lyrics..."feral waves " ? influenced by Don Delillo? LOL so much affect they make you suspect the whole works was cut and pasted from a montage of girlfriends loveletters. it's a good thing they're a charitable lot. |

| The Killers – Human Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| lol... i always have to smile at the club beat, calls to mind the two head-boppin snl characters...dyt? I think that is the genius of the killers, their songs are full of homage. It also could be a clue to meaning, being it calls to mind Cher's Believe...(title?)...nice. | |
