It sounds more romantic to say that this song is about falling madly in love, forgetting everything else in your life, running away with somebody that's always been the friend, but you realize you love. Personally though, I think this song is about accepting God into your life. It seems like this song is from God's point of view to a person who is questioning whether they should take the chance and give their life to God, and to follow Jesus' teachings. "Don't look ahead, just run to me" Don't worry about what will happen, just go to God. "Each step will find the next one recklessly" If you live for God, then everything else will work out by itself. "We'll find ourselves on the safest ledge" And you'll be the safest you've ever felt even if you are on a ledge, because if you fall God will catch you. "Could you be happy to fall like a stone If you'd land right here safe in my arms?" God is asking, "Could you give up everything and live for me if you knew that I would catch you when you fall?" "It's fine, lock all your doors through the night Keep it all right here, safe in my arms It's fine, it's fine" Lock yourself away from the sin in the world, and just stay in His ways. Stay in His "arms," and it'll be fine. "You felt alone before you ever really knew how alone you were An empty house, a lonely room The TV talks the fear right out of you" This person has been living their life for their own personal thrills, and has ended up alone. They look to other things, like the TV for example, to comfort them and distract them. "But you feel like some one's standing by but you'll never know" This person is not truely alone because God is always there, and this person senses this. They're just not taking the step to look to Him for guidance. "The sun burns a hole straight through your old flaws" God (the sun) will always forgive you (burn a hole) for your sins (your old flaws.) "If you look toward the sky even on your greyest night" He will forgive you if you look to the heavens (sky) for his guidance. And he'll forgive you no matter how bad, how dark, or how unholy your circumstance is (your greyest night.) "Could you be happy now, with the wind in your hair And your eyes open wide and your feet going nowhere?" God is asking, "Are you happy in the present, living your thrills, and letting your hair down, but going nowhere in your walk with Jesus Christ?" Or, "Could you be happy to fall like a stone If you'd land right here safe in my arms?" He's asking this person to make a choice. Stay lonely, living life striving to feel alive or actually live with God at your side. |

Personally, I don't think that this couple is broken up yet. I think that one of them is not spending time with the other, and instead he/she is spending all of their time with their friends. He/she isn't spending enough time with the other. Maybe they stopped speaking because of this, or took a break. The person who wants the relationship to prosper is saying, "Just talk to me again when you want to. I'll always take you back." The person is taking longer than expected, and it's tearing the other person apart with anxiety. He/she wants to tell them, but they can't find the right words. They might not want to come across as being mean, or rude. The other person is getting more and more distant each day, and he/she keeps thinking about all of the good things that they've shared. He/she has faith that the other person will come around, and things will be the way they were. Then they start to question it, "Is there hope for this? Cause it's you that I miss" The other person really really doesn't want for it to end because they can't imagine life without them, and they don't want to say goodbye. They can't sleep because they're worrying that the other will break it off. |

| One person is putting effort into relationship, and the other is not doing their part. The person putting in the effort desperately wants the other person to be captured and interested in the relationship, but they aren't communicating enough to. Things don't feel the way they used to between the boy and girl, and neither of them know why. The person doesn't want it to end, but him/her fears for the relationship. At any point the other person could let it go. These trials and tribulations are what the carousel symbolizes. Around and around they go, and the problem hasn't gotten solved. The person is willing to change in order to solve the issue, but the other person just doesn't seem to be making any effort. Every issue left unsolved just propels them further into miscommunication. | |
