Stephen Fretwell – Emily Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is exactly how I feel- its so cathartic when you find a song you really identify with. I think he's been so in love with this girl, and, deep down he knows that he doesn't really mean a great deal to her (you never were going to change your mind were you?) but he still can't let go of her. Finally, he's been able to see that she's really a tradegy and not worth his while at all, even though he still cares for her somewhere (Emily, you still live inside of me). Its obviously painful for him when she calls him and tells him what she's 'been up to'. I love the line 'Next time you write, I won't stay up all night', it just has such a resonance! This song is so cathartic because it is at the same time beautiful, angry, bitter and painful. Magic stuff!

James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover Lyrics 16 years ago
I've recently broken up with my girlfriend and this is the first song that has actually honestly made me cry. It's just so beautifully honest; when he says things like 'I know your smell... i'd be the father of your child' is just so pointient and shameless, and I don't think there are many artists who've been able to write things like that. That's just how you feel when you break up with someone. I don't really think it's about someone's death, as lines like 'I am here for you, if you'd only care' doesn't really fit. It's simply about how utterly heartbroken, devastated and ripped apart he felt when he wrote it. I can't really put how I feel about the song into words... its just indescribablely beautiful and haunting.
