| Black Sabbath – Hole In The Sky Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Re: "The food of love became the greed of our time/ But now I'm living on the profits of pride" Might be a stretch, but there's an oft-quoted line in Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night': "If music be the food of love, play on..." Could very well be a statement about the music industry, especially in context with the following line regarding "profits"... It's not often that Sabbath makes a direct stab at the music industry, but there are themes of disdain for avarice and corporate manipulation on nearly every Sabbath album. Plus, the whole band is fairly well-read, so it isn't totally unreasonable to think that Ozzy would slip a Shakespeare reference into a song. |

When I saw Randy introduce the song as "[going] out to that gentleman who was in Damageplan and Pantera..." my first reaction was to think of the lyrics as referring to William Grim*, that uninformed, pseudo-intellectual asshat who insulted Dimebag and effectively supported Nathaniel Gale's decision to murder him. Dunno, though. *http://www.maximummetal.com/columns/tales/46.asp |

| Mew – 156 Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I checked out Mew's official forum, and there's a thread looking at the poster's sister's interpretation. Someone commented to leave their own idea, and this one stood out to me: "To me, the strongest possiblity is the route 156 (Roskildevej) which connects Cph and Roskilde via Sidse's home town." Possible... but I lean more towards the street address theory, personally. It just sounds right, given the first line: "From my boat I can see your HOUSE." |

I always thought of the lyrics as being rape-oriented, but had never bothered to look after it until now, and it's interesting - albeit upsetting - to know the full story. Thanks! |

Nodistic Order of Destruction is something science fiction-oriented, which may leave that idea in the dust. I'd guess it's number 1. It sounds like a drug song to me! |

Yeah, dude. I just googled him. http://www.abpnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3674&Itemid=53 However, while his home state isn't mentioned, he appears to preach primarily in Mississippi and California. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Hummer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The more I listen to this song with the homosexual references in mind, the righter I think you are, Paega. I really think that even if Billy meant it differently (or at least more broadly), that's the way it speaks to me. I wouldn't have even considered the idea if not for your post... Thanks for opening my eyes a bit, man! | |
