I can relate to this song word for word at this moment. I believe that this song is about someone that she loves and desires, but does not have. She dreams about him constantly, and in her dreams he can't lose the thought of her. "I'll let you run away But your heart will not oblige you You'll remember me like a melody Yeah, I'll haunt the world inside you" She continues to have an effect on him and he can't seem to figure it out but he's captivated. "I'll let you see me. I'll covet your regard. I'll invade your demeanor. I'll invade your demeanor. And you'll yield to me. Like a scent in the breeze. And you'll wonder what it is about me. It's my big secret Keeping you coming" But the main point is all of this is apart of her dreams. It's her fantasy playing out. And though she knows she's just within this fantasy she mentions that it eases her when what she desires isn't a reality. "Though dreams can be deceiving Like faces are to hearts They serve for sweet relieving When fantasy and reality" Lie too far apart Essentially to me this song describes a time when you greatly desire someone and you dream about them... and in these fantasies you can play up to your minds desire and have everything you want. And it's as if it's your secret that the person doesn't know yet, But you'll keep dreaming of them and somehow have them in the end. This songs means much to me and I love Fiona Apple... hopefully such desires become reality for most people. |
