"Playing on mind fields searching like never before" Searching for that last mine so you can end your life? If I were in the aftermath of nuclear fallout, I'd be looking for a way to kill myself. Land mine outta do it. |

El Cid is completely correct, even Soilwork's name regards a struggle between the small amount of rich men on the planet, and the vast amount of poor masses. It's all over them, and this song is almost a flagship for their disillusionment. They're saying: You're asleep, sheeple. Time to wake up and give a shit about yourself. |

| Soilwork – Black Star Deceiver (feat. Devin Townsend) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Well, from what I can gather, it seems like a foreshadowing of what many refer to as '2012', or the planetary alignment in December 2012. During that time, the planets will align and create a solar eclipse. Some believe that 'Planet X' aligns with the rest of the planets, and it is the "Black Star" or the hidden sun of our solar system. It is in shadow at all times (allegedly) "Black star deceiver kills it all...the sun lies waiting for a call." The sun is waiting for God's call to usher in the end of the planet. The black star that is not visible is understood to bring the downfall of the planet, in a frenzy of weather and geological problems, killing off the human race (or reducing it to shambles) Makes a lot more sense than assuming someone would call 'God' a 'black star deciever'...even satanists view God as 'good and pure' and merely dislike good, pure things, so why would they call him a deceiver which is what they call their master, satan? Doesn't make much sense, but I could be wrong. If they don't know much about Abrahamic religion, they wouldn't know that so yeah. lol |

| Opeth – The Baying of the Hounds Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Nobody has ever heard of 'The Hounds of Hell'? They guard vampires, devils, and such whilst they rest or...corrupt virgins...whatever it is evil beings do when they can't protect themselves! I believe they've been loosed on someone with morals, as a former Christian I can say with confidence that Satan targets individuals that are progressive dreamers. He tries to cause them to become bitter, no longer even caring to question life anymore! They just accept anything that comes their way, no longer cleaning their living quarters or caring for their bodies, literally wearing away. We label this PTSD, anxiety, depression...everything I have weekly visits with professionals about. Any way, I agree that the symbolism used here could be interchanged for any form of devil or evil, all the way to the fact that the majority of people on power on this planet are incredibly corrupt. Also, the phrase 'beneath the mire'...does this mean literally under the marshes, in hell? Or is it a Lord of the Rings reference? Does it mean the alternate definition, simply to be under negative circumstances? Most likely the latter, given the mother's death as a circumstance that the evil uses to turn the protagonist into an antagonist. It's ironic that the song is about giving up, accepting flaws. Christianity almost beckons us to do this, teaching that 'this world' is merely 'temporary'. Could God have foreseen global warming as a sudden killer of the human race, and a re-aligning of the planet into a more natural state? Is the struggle to rid our planet of social and chemical rubbish in vain? Thinking that way is the first step to failure, but God simply promised 'no more floods'...he didn't say anything bout not letting us shoot ourselves in the temple with fossil fuel burning, and he can't stop someone from raping and killing a person...even the strong-willed are tested to extremes and fail. The human race is incredibly self destructive. It's a great story, but always so depressing to feel that Opeth is writing songs about me. I want to make a difference, but find so many statistics that say none of us can, that we've destroyed ourselves in a matter of 150 years. I guess it's time to finish school and make an impact on the planet I guess...or drown in Southern Comfort first! Either way |

| Opeth – To Rid the Disease Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I have to tell you, as someone that hates both self and the rest of the human race (for many reasons including RUINING THE ONLY KNOWN LIFE SUSTAINING PLANET IN OUR GALAXY), I would whole-heartedly agree on both main interpretations, the intended world-view by the band as well as the secondary suicidal interpretation. But more importantly, I feel that the two actually go hand in hand. At least, I know our exploitations of the planet and mistakes in life that effect ourselves and one-another are pretty much the main reason I feel like giving up. Though there could still be some hope left. More and more people are waking up every day, recycling their trash and going to therapy so they can finally quit ruining the lives of those around you. It's pretty easy to feel like dying when noone honestly loves you. Thankfully, God found me whereas the subject of this song can't even think *that* optimistically... I mean if we're screwed in the present, why not prepare for what *MIGHT* happen? Hahaha! Any way yeah. I agree, I've lost trust in the world. Especially after living in this God-forsaken country for the last eight years. Meh. |

| Opeth – Death Whispered a Lullaby Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I'm thinking the last part is talking about someone "opening the door" to someone's past. For instance, they complete the murders, the foolish townsmen are obviously not catching this killer because they haven't found their peace of mind, and this indicates to me that the killer is still free. If they are spoken to about the event, jostled in it's mentioning, this may open a door leading to their capture, crumbling their world and making their figurative moon fall from the sky, indicating chaotic events and such. But this is my first interpretation. I do agree totally with the killer interpretation, and many others, as Opeth's work can be viewed more in the light of poetic criticism than lyrical in my personal opinion! I mean spout some Opeth lines and see if you don't get laid. |
