It just occurred to me that he could be talking about a different person in the first verse and the last. Like, "you" refers to the object of his affections, rather than one particular individual. If "you" has "a brand new laugh and a different face," that suggests a new, or at least radically changed, person. I like that better too, so I'm gonna roll with it. |

I am in agreement with Dwight. Although I didn't think it had to be about hurting someone you love--I initially identified with song regarding something else entirely--I think that it is "your" carpet tends to support that. "I spilled red wine on the carpet, Letting it sink in deep for days." Generally, I think this song is about making a terrible mistake (the equivalent of spilling red wine on the carpet), the effect that can have on your brain, and the process of dealing with it all. Depression is a funny thing; even when you know you've fucked up, and know what you need to do in response, sometimes you just can't/won't. So you end up "letting it sink in deep for days," making the problem go from just bad to completely irreparable. It completely consumes you, and you can't ever get over it. Eventually, you have to move on with your life, and you do. Even though you can never forget the issue, you have to learn to live with it. Anyways, I love this song, and it helped me deal with some pretty serious issues. I didn't like the album at first, for some reason, but love it now. |

you just blew my mind with this interpretation. along the same lines: 1. "take apart your head." - leonard was clearly going insane in the movie. 2. "chew it up and swallow it" - may be a reference to the eating/snack food issues. 3. "I can't shake this little feeling, do you want to come along? Cause I'll never set anything right" - Private pyle's frustrations with his inability to "get it right," asking the sergeant if he wants to die with him? 4. "take apart your friends, take apart the demon up in the attic to the left" - referencing the actual shooting of the sgt. (isn't the sgt. supposed to be their "best friend" or some b.s. in the movie?), and how he took apart the demon up in his attic, with a bullet. 5. "the storm is coming, here is your storm again" - the storm being him losing his shit, "your storm" being the fact that the sgt. caused it. |

Thanks for the start, here is an updated set, based on what I hear. I'm not quite sure about the last 2 verses. I am simple, I am honestly bland. I am the leader of a few good men. the sentence isn't even close to grammatically correct when it's pope. "i'm a preacher with no pope and spewing a sermon that goes on and on..." needs a subject for the second sentence. any inclusion of the word "and" screws it grammatically. "i'm a preacher with no pulpit, spewing a sermon that goes on and on..." is grammatically correct. bn tends to have good grammar. |

http://www.biblekeeper.com/justasiam.php just as i am lyrics. in case anyone was wondering. seems to really seem relevant to the album as a whole Anybody else notice that the metaphors go two by two? mountain/river, both landscapes. sky/ocean, sun/moon, word/mouth still struggling with the second set of lyrics, mountain/fugitive/preacher, seems to be along the same feel as the hymn. |

But there's no revolution, so I bought a Bride" What happened to WW2 being the war to end all wars? don't we fight wars to bring about "peace," so we can stop making prosthetic limbs for war vets fighting nameless causes for politicians ambitions, and start making violins, for us? I'm kind of in agreement with whatgirlsdreamsaremadeof about the interpretation, almost sold on these lyrics. the way i see it, the whole song is about people settling, people settling for spouses, people settling for our way of life, people being apathetic about what's going on in our world. This kind of reminds me of a kevin devine song, i think "it's only your life," the line "go round out your life with some boy you might like, while you buried your love in the dirt." very parallel to the idea of buying a bride. |
