to me this is about a girl, who does something so unbelievably cruel or low eg. cheating (as others have said before) personally this song has a bit of a different meaning to just blatant cheating. the girl i loved went and slept with someone else, and when i listened to this song i could relate to the lyrics. "How could this be done By such a smiling sweetheart" points out not only the cruelty of what the person has done, but how two-faced she is. how he trusted her and only saw the "smiling sweetheart" but not the ugly side to her. the lyrics in the album say that it is "is such an ugly word, but something so beautiful" which to me is talking about love in its self. he sees the ugly side of love, but something that has its beauty. personally i reckon the lyrics should be "in such an ugly world, someone so beautiful" anyways this is just my interpretation and my first shot at a song meaning |
