| Mercy Me – So long self Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Arch85 has got it. This song is about giving yourself up and not living for you, but for Jesus Christ. You cant live for yourself and Him at the same time, its not possable, so this is cutting off any ties that lead to a former self and saying good bye. | |

This is all in my perspective, so if dnt agree then thats your opinion. i love this song soooooo much, it inspires me everytime i listen to it!!! FIRST OFF, i want to say that i think the begginning quotes in the backround of the 1st part of the song give more of an in depth look as to what the song is about, and you'll see it in my explanation down below. "everyone, everyone will listen", describes the influential ones around you starting to listen to you, "Ohhh life's waiting to begin", is the new beginning i'll be talking about. and "If loves the word, that you say, Say it, I will listen", if you really see the way out, show me, i will help you. I will run the streets and hostile lands I will touch the rain with all I have I will breathe the air, just scream it loud My feet will never touch the ground Because the days they feel like ancient clocks Like when kids grow up and learn to walk Because your life is full of pure desire A place so gloriously wired Hes in a place in his mind, his past maybe, and hes running through the "streets" and working past his pain, but hes not letting the past get to him "My feet will never touch the ground." whatever happened happened a long time ago and he is discoverying just how bad things don't have to be anymore "because your life is full of pure desire, A place so gloriousy wired." The lights and sounds Oh God this is such a mess And it's like our world But we're the last ones left And the hair it stands On the back of our necks And I swear it shows Heaven must be just like this The "lights and sounds" represent those "streets" he was running through, the lights of everything he's seen in his life, and the sounds being everything he's heard, and the 2nd line is simply putting enthusiasm into how much of a mess it is. Being "the last ones left", he could be talking about going through this process with a friend. And that feeling you get when your the happiest you've ever been, has the compared feeling you get you when your scared and your hair stands on end, its got the depth and height of that feelings, but happy, not not scared. and hes feeling on top of the world, and is so happy, that he swears Heaven must be just like that feeling. Do you see the hills beneath the clouds? With stars and its to lead you out Can you sense the pain? It's everywhere And if you try you'll never care And the love you had When you were young Is right outside for all to come Because your life is full of pure desire A life so gloriously wired A hill beneath the clouds is often an image on relaxation and comfort, so it could be a place you will be when you see a path out, "With stars as trails to lead you out", which could represents a place of comfort, and because you can see the stars, you know the way out now. but, because stars are so high up you'll have to let go of things binding you here to follow the way out. and you've discovered this way out, your seeing how things don't have to be this way anymore, cause now theres a way out. It says "Can you sense the pain? It's everywhere, And if you try you'll never care" to express a 'running away' appraouch. You'll always feel it, but if you try to care about these bad things you never will cause you'll end up running away from your problems. If you see the light break through the clouds And fire up the distant towers Now the world will be begin Exactly how it ends When you call for help when you are lost For evermore or what ever it costs And the world will begin Exactly how it ends The "light" is that of a ray of light thats broken through like an epiphany in harsh times (clouds), "fire up" could mean it's shown certain close influences to help guide your way out. The world begginning exactly how it ends could mean a 'pciking up from where you left off', as to say that your have a lot of hope and happiness for your way out, and the new 'world', or mind frame, will pick up from where you left off. "when you call for help when you are lost, For evermore or what ever it costs" says to me, NEVER, EVER GIVE UP. "For evermore (never give up) or what ever it costs (no matter the sacrafice." and doing so, your new world will start exactly how you left your old one, full of new hope and happiness. Please stay Don't go I've got you now Are you curious? Please stay That seems likes it comes out of nowhere and has thrown me off for a LONG time, and as i can see, others have trouble with it too. but, after thinking long and hard about it, to me, it seems like its coming from a person in your 'new world', asking and pleading for you to stay (please stay, Don't go), and they WON'T let you down and theyre here for everything (I've got you now). "Are you curious?" could be another way of saying "take a chance cause i know you want to", and again, ending it with "Please stay", asking you more fermly to stay |
