The part about the Congo and cellphone production is great. I recently read Adam Hothschild's King Leopold's Ghost, which discusses the Belgian colonialism within the Congo and how aspects of globalization, such as the mining of cobalt for cellphone batteries, continue to ruin the lives of the Congolese. Insightful lyrics. I was surprised to come across them. It's a difficult thing for many (maybe all) of us in the rich countries to get the blood off our hands. |
