John Mayer – Heartbreak Warfare Lyrics 15 years ago
In his Playboy interview, John makes it VERY clear that this song is NOT about Jen. He says that Jen is the most "communicative, sweetest, kindest" person and would "never use heartbreak warfare". He says that the song is about other girls he knows who use jealousy as a "look how much better I am now" tatic. It's about how rough breaking up with someone when they use backstabbing. The line "once you want it to begin, no one really ever wins" is saying it's a deadend road. You end up no where.

The song also speaks of the lover that John really is. It says that all she needed to do was ask for more love and he would've given it to her. He didn't want things to end in the first place. I bet he's a pretty decent boyfriend. Loyal and giving and sacrificing.

John Mayer – Who Says Lyrics 15 years ago
I have to agree with those that believe its NOT about pot. It's kind of like in his Playboy interview, he chose the "n" word not meaning it at all, but knowing it was going to have a shock affect.

"Who says I can't get stoned" means "Why can't I live how I want?" He's referring to his freedom. He's not making fun of potheads, he's thinking about being free with his guitar, his life, his passions, his women. He clearly stating that he just "doesn't give a damn" what people think about him and his life. It doesn't matter if he sleeps with some random chick from his past. Who's going to say anything to him?

The song's actually pretty deep. My first impression was "I don't want to listen to a song about weed". But when I gave it a chance, I realized that he's aching for the day when the media gets the message and just leaves him alone. It's an exponentially beautiful, deep, and intelligent song.
