The Academy Is... – Ghost Lyrics 17 years ago
I think William is saying that we live orderly and prototypical lives. We wake up in the morning, go to school/work, socialize, then go to bed at night. Then the next day we do it all over again. Then once we've done this same routine for long enough...we die.

In the beginning he's talking about trying to hide from this inevitability.
He realizes how little he's done, but only realizes this when it's too late.

I think "Who decides where everybody goes? What if I don't?" is an important line. After discovering how much of a conformist he's been his whole life, he fears that he'll yet again be pushed into a path by some authoritative force (society in his first life, possibly some type of god in his second).

LAST THING
"There are fine lines I've seen
We are stuck in between
With separate eyes to use and throw aside"

This reinforces my idea. In life, there are two fine lines that we cannot cross. So it ends up with us all being on this same straight and narrow path, never stepping out of line.
As for the eyes, I think it emphasizes how insignificant our lives on Earth are. We see the world as we know it through our eyes, but after we die, they are completely useless.

Maybe I'm waaaay off base.
But that's at least what I take from this amazing song :)

Say Anything – The Writhing South Lyrics 17 years ago
This could be COMPLETELY wrong, but my mom came up with it and I thought it was clever. :)

"I've got this red right hand
that points me south"

I asked her what she interpreted that to be & she said maybe it was a compass metaphor.
The red hand on a compass points in the opposite direction of where you're facing (we think, we're not compass experts).

So MAYBE, Max feels like he's being pointed in the wrong direction.

Just a guess. But I was impressed with my momma after that one haha

Say Anything – Yellow Cat (Slash) Red Cat Lyrics 17 years ago
"The feline war has raged for years, so I assume it'd be too hard for me to drive my foot between them.
I would never risk the scratch, just to prove to one or both of them a cat is just a cat"

This is pretty obvious BUT

I think this is about laziness & selfishness.
We see so many silly and useless battles, but we do nothing. We're afraid of interfering because we fear it will bring adversity upon ourselves. Because we're too selfish & afraid, shit never gets done. We don't stand up for what we believe in, so everything that we believe is detrimental just continues.

Max Bemis never fails to amaze me. Master of metaphors.
