| This song is about 9/11 and those who live in fear because of it. Then the London bombings happen and rightfully freaked him out. Check the re-release date. "Well, let them take you next!" | |

To me, this song is about passive aggressiveness in a relationship. The emotion does heighten (into active aggressiveness) as the song advances, as do most other Snow Patrol songs. At first, he ponders whether he should try to hold onto his dying relationship. After the chorus, there is a sharp change in attitude: he seems almost scary. The second verse describes him as someone who clearly lost control (for example, he may have flipped out at his partner. or killed them). The song suggests that he verbally attacked his partner, "Breathing fire was never this much fun." Now I disagree with some others interpretation of "I never knew the taste of blood till now. It's clear I never should have known." I don't know about you guys, but when I am holding back anger for a long period of time and I finally am able to attack, it's a great feeling while you release. I think that's what he's talking about. He says he never should have known because he knows he is taking his attack too far, and he enjoys it. |
