ok... the biblical references don't seem like they should be taken literally... this is (was) a very metaphoric band... from a lot of their songs, it seems like jesse has read the bible yes, but not to find spiritual guidance, it seems more like it was to more understand people... the metaphors are just too perfect that they are taken too literally, read it, but read into it also... the story of the crucifixion is a great way to get people thinking, mainly because it's a story almost everyone has heard. i'm not inside his head, so i may be wrong, i'm just going from the tone of most of their lyrics, but this probably has a much more personal, and modern, true meaning... something that's happened that caused a lot of pain, maybe not directly to jesse, but something that people related to, much like the story of christ. i could go on forever, but i'm not going to. ending note; when listening to songs/ reading lyrics, don't just listen/read... think... try to understand... yeah |

so... even though i can tell nobody's really posted on this one in a while, so those who posted before me may not read this. i can see how people would think this was suicide... at first glance, it certainly seems so... but how i read it was as an accidental drug overdose... "forced myself to sleep last night" was the first key in that, downers to deal with shit... also the words "accidental exit"... maybe it is referring to regretting a suicide attempt as you die, but that's still not an accident, drug overdoses can be. and no i don't think every song is about drugs. this just seems to fit. |

wow I've been a godsmack fan for years... they've always been pretty open about the fact that they weren't too big into drugs... some even called them a "strait-edge" band, falsely so, but still. I know bands often lie about drug use... but the story behind the band's name, and the song, have always been the same, all members have concurred. They are influenced by AIC, but the name is from the cold sore incident... the song? it's a mixture of the movie and of sully's spirituality. he's wiccan, which is a peaceful religion (i myself was wiccan for years). he had a run in with voodoo, which welcomes black magick (not some shit where they're trying to kill everyone, or any david copperfield type shit, it just deals with making yourself better through sometimes shady ways) i don't have much experience with voodoo, just what i learned from a high priestess at a pagan camp, but i've read up on santeria (the two are very similar, the different name is just because they come from different areas) there are spiritual rites that involve chemicals, more commonly referred to as "drugs" but they aren't used in a recreational way (much like peyote being legal for members of the native american religion, but illegal for anyone else). there are also many mentions of snakes, and snakebites and snake's skin and snake's venom... mostly because the areas voodoo (and santeria) come from are quite infested with venomous snakes, and the people always found meanings in deaths/illnesses/any affect of these snake bites. THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HEROIN. but it's clear that it can be interpreted that way... so, maybe word your posts as "i relate this song to heroin" not "they wrote it about heroin" go fuck yourselves and have a nice day |

I think the reference to killing the teenagers doesn't mean they believe that's the answer. All of the events mentioned, and people mentioned refer more to the influences on youth today, and lack of guidance. Especially "mothers suffocate babies." kind of a big fuck you to people who wish the world was better, yet contribute to the decay of society. |
