I always thought of this as a spiritual song. She's flying like a spirit leaving her own life she's dead. She's in heaven and feels like she just got home or has achieved her state of nirvana. It's like the video. The world is crazy. It's full of billions of different individuals but we all die and one day we may all be as one either on earth or some place else. You just enjoy life as much as you can and you may feel like her. Your tears go below the rest of the earth "sink beneath the sun" and you may feel more like this happy spirit. |

Adding to my other comment...
Another message to this song, to me anyway, is that it's good to stay young at heart. If you watch the "Breakfast Club" there's a line that says "When you get old you're heart dies." The guy in this song sounds pretty fun loving, and hopefully no matter how old he gets he'll never lose that. |

This song is funny, but to me it has some deep meaning. If you listen to some of the lyrics "that's about the time that bitch hung up on me" or "she walked away from me" it's very easy to relate to for many young people.
When I was young and in high school I was a little immature, not the least bit unusual, but I was a good kid. Everyone kept telling me how wonderful I was, but then I turned 19 and started college and everyone turned into jerks. They were basically saying "Ok you're an adult now. You're not 18 and younger anymore. Be more serious." I was mature, but I still had some of that high school mentality, and people just expect you to morph into an adult over night. You're still young between the ages of 18 and 25, and people need to understand that. Alternatively, though this part has little to do with the song, people need to stop judging these young adults and let them explore different styles and learn things on their own. If 21 year olds want to drink don't judge them for that.
The message to me is don't be in a hurry to grow up. You have your whole life ahead of you. |

| Deana Carter – Strawberry Wine Lyrics

This song is actually beautiful. Looking at these interpretations I wonder what Deana Carter intended for this song to mean. Some people are saying that this is a sad song because it's about the regret of her first love and the loss of innocence. They say that it is just about sex and nothing else, but I would love it more as a love song. It's bittersweet because she misses her innocence, but maybe she does not regret it because she says that she goes back year after year to "remember the taste of strawberry wine." Why would she go back if it was painful? Her first taste of love was a taste of strawberry wine when she was young and naive. Her first taste of love may not have been sex, but love making. There is a difference. "The hot July moon saw everything." It was a romantic night in the country and it was so romantic that they could not resist, nor could their hormones resist (no really), and that is where the loss of her innocence comes in. Sounds silly, but that's my interpretation. She might miss her innocence, but she might not regret it. It's a sad memory in that she lost her innocence and they were seperated, but it's a beautiful memory. Love hurts, but it was still her first love. Love should be experienced by everyone even if it sometimes end in heartache. It's bittersweet just like strawberry wine. |

| Alanis Morissette – Perfect Lyrics

This is a really good song. A lot of people really need to hear it whether they are parents or children. Alanis is sort of being sarcastic in these lyrics. I remember hearing this song when I was 15 and thinking "Surely she can't be serious." My parents always made me feel like I was on top of the world. They have always been proud of me even though I was not perfect. The song is about parents who have unrealistic expectations for their children. You have to get that 4.0 every term. You have to get into this college. My great grandfather and his father before that went to this college. You have to win the state championship; I'm not having any losers in my family. Get out there and win! You have to get this part in the school play. You have to win the beauty pageant. I never won the beauty pageant when I was your age etc...There are a lot of parents who pull that kind of crap. You really see how ridiculous that type of parenting is when the song reaches the bridge. Some parents live through their children. It's a very small and selfish thing to do. That kind of pressure causes children psychological harm. They deserve better. They are entitled to better. Every parent needs to expect their kids to be the best that they can be, but no child is going to posess all of the qualities that those parents wanted for their children. A big part of love is acceptance. The message these kids get is "We love you just the way you are if you're perfect." A lot of times parents who raise their kids like that have an even more difficult time establishing relationships with them as adults. When those kids finally become their own people and move out they don't want anything to do with their parents. The parents can't figure out why. I had wonderful parents. This song just makes me appreciate my family more. |
