To me the song is about who the singer once was and who he is now. The "girl" talks about the boy she remembers but the singer talks about the girl he left with when they split. While he made have held a torch for her for a bit but looking back he realizes his time with her was nothing but a waste. "Well the clock's heart it hangs inside its open chest with its hands Stretched towards the calendar hanging itself but I will not weep for those dying days. For all the ones who have left there are a few that stayed. And they found me here and pulled me from the grass where I was laid." He's saying he tried to give her his heart and he watched his life pass by while he waited. But he doesn't regret it and he has moved on. After she left, there were friends who helped him and they are more important to him than a girl he once knew. |
